Aluminium enduro eMTB with Shimano EP801 (85Nm/600W) and 626Wh battery; configurable build

The Propain Ekano 2 2024 is the German direct-sale brand's full-power enduro eMTB, an aluminium PRO10 dual-link chassis built around the Shimano EP801 motor and a 626 Wh Darfon battery. Headline numbers: 180 mm fork, 170 mm rear travel, Shimano EP801 at 85 Nm and 600 W peak (2.7 kg), 626 Wh removable Darfon E3C0A 626 pack, a 64.0 degree head angle, reach 435 to 495 mm across S to XL, 445 mm fixed chainstay, 23.5 kg claimed weight and €5,889 base price. Production status is discontinued, replaced by the Ekano 3 platform (currently offered with Avinox and SRAM Powertrain options). The community verdict, from @mane, is that the Ekano 2 is "used for gap jumping progression up to 4 meters", confirming the platform's enduro/freeride credentials.
Drive system and range. The Shimano EP801 at 85 Nm and 600 W peak is the current-generation Shimano full-power unit, programmable via E-Tube. The 626 Wh Darfon battery is removable. Real-world range on 626 Wh in a 23.5 kg full-power chassis sits in the 30 to 45 km bracket depending on assist mode and elevation gain. One community quote notes the Ekano "180/170 is a massive 40% progression through the travel", which gave the platform a particularly progressive suspension feel with the stock air shock. The Shimano ecosystem lacks the OTA polish of Bosch Flow App or DJI Avinox.
Geometry and handling. The 64.0 degree head angle is bang on category-norm for the 180/170 mm full-power enduro brief. Reach progresses 435, 455, 475 and 495 mm across S to XL with a fixed 445 mm chainstay. The 445 mm rear-centre is mid-pack for the enduro segment, balanced between agility and climbing stability. The PRO10 dual-link rear suspension is the Propain signature, with 40% progression through travel making the platform highly tunable: aggressive riders will appreciate the progressive end-stroke, while smoother riders may want to add volume reducers for a more linear feel.
Build and value. Base trim at €5,889 with 23.5 kg claimed. Propain operates a configurator-style direct-sale model with all the value benefits of skipping LBS markup. The Ekano CF carbon variant was sold alongside, with @whitymon noting "Ekano 2 CF (SRAM Powertrain bike) discounted end of summer with free range extender and additional 20% discount applied", suggesting Propain's end-of-line pricing can be aggressive. Standout choice is the 23.5 kg weight in the 180/170 mm full-power class, considerably lighter than the Haibike Nduro (26 kg) and Cannondale Moterra Neo LT (26.51 kg) at similar travel. Questionable is the direct-sale model with long delivery times and limited dealer support.
Verdict. The Ekano 2 2024 is discontinued, replaced by the Ekano 3 platform offered with DJI Avinox and SRAM Powertrain motor options. @Nomadic Dad measures the Ekano 3 AL Size Large at 25.48 kg in top spec, slightly heavier than the discontinued Ekano 2 at 23.5 kg, while @Str1fe notes the Ekano 3 with DJI motor sits "approximately 23 to 25 kg total weight" depending on spec. Remaining 2024 stock continues to clear through Propain's direct-sale channel. Buy the 2024 Ekano 2 if you can find dealer stock at meaningful discount, you want a 180/170 mm enduro chassis with Shimano EP801 and a 626 Wh removable battery at 23.5 kg, you value Propain's PRO10 dual-link suspension kinematics with the progressive 40% spring rate, and you accept the direct-sale brand's limitations on local service support. Look elsewhere if you want a modern carbon chassis (Ekano CF was at higher trim level), you need the latest motor options (Ekano 3 brings Avinox and SRAM Powertrain alternatives), or you require a deep local dealer network. @Yotaismygame's frustration with Propain's "website was a shit show" and the "frame I picked was somehow sold out from under me while checking out" highlights the consumer-direct model's friction. For the right buyer with the right discount, the Ekano 2 remains a properly capable full-power enduro at a relatively light weight, and its progressive PRO10 suspension is worth experiencing. One community comparison calls the Ekano "a heavy hitter" in the 180/170 mm category. Sizing S to XL covers a generous rider envelope. As of mid-2026 the Ekano 2 sits in the discontinued-but-still-available bracket through Propain's clearance pages.
