EMTB Forums verdict

The 2023 Norco Range VLT is the Canadian brand's full-power enduro eMTB, built around a Shimano STEPS EP8 drive unit and Norco's customer-selectable in-tube battery (540Wh, 720Wh or 900Wh, sold separately). With 180mm up front and 170mm out back on a 63.0-degree head angle and 1232-1336mm wheelbase, it is unashamedly a Big Mountain and enduro machine rather than a do-everything trail bike.

Norco offered four builds: alloy A1 and A2, and carbon C1 and C2 (carbon front triangle and seatstay over an aluminium chainstay). Every build pairs a coil shock with a burly 38mm or Zeb-class fork and Maxxis Assegai DD tyres front and rear, so even the entry A2 is specced for gravity duty. The carbon C1 is the flagship with Fox Factory suspension and a Shimano XT/XTR mix, while the alloy A1 with Fox Performance 38 and Fox Factory DHX2 coil is arguably the value pick of the range.

The geometry is consistent across all four trims and all four sizes (S to XL, 29in wheels throughout), with long reach figures, a slack head angle and steepening effective seat angles that keep the long-travel platform climbing well under EP8 assistance. The big-battery option list makes range a buyer choice rather than a fixed compromise.

The Range VLT was discontinued after 2023, so it is now a used or end-of-line purchase. As a result, original retail pricing and stock vary, but the spec sheet remains a strong enduro proposition for riders chasing long descents and big days out.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
94

Slack 63° head angle, 170mm travel and a long 1301mm wheelbase — composed in the chunk, confident when it gets steep, and stable through fast corners.

Playfulness
7

More planted than poppy — better on steep terrain than tight, fiddly singletrack.

Size balance
92

Balanced front-to-rear in L (FC:RC 1.82) — weight sits evenly between the wheels.

Technical climbing
74

Shimano EP8 (DU-EP800) and a steep 76.9° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toFast, steep, rough tracks — and riders who want maximum composure.

Rewards commitment; it should feel calmer as the speed rises.

Watch out forNot a flickable, playful bike — built to plough, not pop.

Brilliant on fast, rough, steep terrain; less fun on tight, mellow trails.
