EMTB Forums verdict

The 2024 Mondraker Thundra was the brand's full-power aluminium trail hardtail eMTB, a deliberately accessible gateway into Mondraker's electric range. It paired a 6061 Xtralite Stealth alloy frame with Mondraker's long-reach Forward Geometry, a 120mm RockShox Recon Silver RL fork and full 29in wheels, all built around the then-new Shimano STEPS EP600 motor (85Nm) and a non-removable 720Wh Simplo battery, with an optional 360Wh range extender to push combined capacity to 1080Wh.

As a hardtail it has no rear shock by design, so the 120mm figure is all front travel. Geometry runs a relaxed 70 degree head angle, a 74.5 degree seat angle and a fixed 455mm chainstay, with reaches from 415mm at XS up to 510mm at XL across five sizes. Those reach numbers are long for the size, which is normal for Forward Geometry rather than a data error. The low 308mm bottom bracket and -70mm drop keep it stable for a hardtail.

For 2024 Mondraker offered two trail-hardtail builds. The upper base Thundra leaned on value-focused kit: a SRAM SX Eagle 1x12 drivetrain, SRAM Level T two-piston brakes (200mm front, 180mm rear), Mavic E-CrossRide wheels, Maxxis Rekon 29x2.6 tyres and an Onoff alloy cockpit. Notably it shipped with a rigid Onoff seatpost rather than a dropper, and a claimed weight of around 22kg, in a Gray/Black/Yellow finish at 3199 GBP RRP. The cheaper Thundra S shared the same 6061 Xtralite frame, EP600 motor, 720Wh battery and Maxxis Rekon tyres, but swapped to a RockShox Judy Silver TK 120mm fork on a 9x100mm quick-release front axle and upgraded to SRAM G2 R four-piston brakes (same 200mm front, 180mm rear rotors), with MDK-HP1 rims on Formula hubs and an MDK Urban stem, listed at 3499 EUR RRP. Both kept the same rigid Onoff seatpost, so neither shipped with a dropper.

The Thundra has since been discontinued and was not carried into 2026. It should not be confused with the Thundra X, which is Mondraker's urban-cross commuter variant on the same frame platform and sits outside the trail eMTB category.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
45

A solid all-round descender (70° head angle, 120mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
74

Short 455mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.

Size balance
70

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.65) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
73

Shimano EP6 (DU-EP600) and a steep 74.5° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toPlayful trail riding — jumps, pumps and tight, techy singletrack.

Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.

Watch out forNo major red flags in the L geometry.

The numbers are well balanced for its category.
