Steeper 69° and shorter travel — happiest descending smooth, flowy trail rather than properly rough or steep terrain.

Aggressive alloy hardtail with long geometry and a big 720Wh battery

The 2023 Mondraker Thundra is a now-discontinued full-power hardtail eMTB built on Mondraker's STEALTH 6061 Xtralite aluminium frame with the brand's Forward Geometry. It runs a Shimano EP600 drive unit with a 720Wh internal Simplo battery, which a 360Wh external range extender can lift to a substantial 1,080Wh. A 120mm RockShox Recon Silver RL fork, 29in wheels and 2.6in Maxxis Rekon trail tyres mark it out as a genuine off-road hardtail rather than a path-and-towpath machine.
It was sold as a single build at GBP 3,799. The spec is honest entry-to-mid hardtail: SRAM SX Eagle 1x12 drivetrain with an 11-50T cassette, SRAM Level T two-piston brakes on 200/180mm rotors, in-house Onoff alloy cockpit and a rigid 400mm Onoff seatpost (no dropper at this price). Claimed weight is 22.0kg. Five sizes run from XS to XL.
Geometry is moderate by modern trail standards: a 69-degree head angle, 73.5-degree effective seat angle and 455mm chainstays across the range, with reach growing 410mm to 505mm. That makes it an approachable, climbing-friendly all-day trail hardtail rather than an aggressive descender. Note that the urban-spec Thundra X sibling (100mm fork, semi-slick Maxxis Grifter tyres, narrow urban cockpit) is a commuter and sits outside the trail-eMTB remit covered here. The Thundra has since been discontinued from Mondraker's line-up. No verified owner or long-term reliability data is included.
What the numbers mean on the trail
Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.
Short 455mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.
Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.66) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.
Shimano EP6 (DU-EP600) and a steep 73.5° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.
Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.
Fine at trail pace; it'll feel out of its depth on properly rough, steep tracks.
