Steeper 69.5° and shorter travel — happiest descending smooth, flowy trail rather than properly rough or steep terrain.

Efficient alloy hardtail for cross-country climbs and fire roads

The 2022 Merida eBIG.NINE is the brand's full-power 29er hardtail eMTB, a Category 3 (XC and Trail) machine built for everything from weekend trail loops to the weekday commute. Unlike the later 2024 range, the 2022 line runs Shimano's proven EP8 drive unit rated at 85 Nm across almost the whole lineup, paired with a 100 mm SR Suntour fork and either a 750 Wh Simplo, 630 Wh Shimano E8036 or, on the entry models, a 504 Wh Shimano E8010 battery.
The range is broad. The equipped flagship 775 EQ and the 700 carry an XT 12-speed drivetrain and a RAIDON34 fork, with the 700 rolling on faster Maxxis Rekon Race tyres. Below them, the 675 and 600 use an 11-speed Deore groupset and an XCR34 fork, while the 475 and 400 step down to 10-speed Deore, MT200 brakes and an XCM34 fork. At the bottom sit the 300 SE and LTD on the simpler eBIG.NINE LITE frame, the 300 SE dropping to Shimano's E7000 motor (60 Nm) and a 504 Wh battery, the LTD keeping EP8. Most models are also sold as EQ versions with rack, mudguards, lights and a frame lock for full commuter duty.
Geometry splits by frame. The main LITE III models share a relaxed 67.5 degree head angle, 74.5 degree seat angle, long 465 mm chainstays and reach from 411 mm (S) to 462 mm (XL) across S to XL. The budget LITE frame (300 SE and LTD, M to XL only) is steeper and shorter at 69.5 and 73.5 degrees with 458 mm chainstays. Either way this is easygoing, do-it-all hardtail territory rather than aggressive trail riding, which matches the eBIG.NINE's stated everyday-versatility brief. No published owner reliability data is available for these trims.
What the numbers mean on the trail
Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.
A fair bit of pop, but happiest on flowing trail rather than trials moves.
Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.50) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.
Shimano EP8 (DU-EP800) and a steep 73.5° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.
No single standout trait — a balanced, versatile bike.
Fine at trail pace; it'll feel out of its depth on properly rough, steep tracks.
