EMTB Forums verdict

The MAXX Tourmaxx ELS Sport is a German-built, made-to-order alloy allmountain eMTB running 130mm of travel front and rear on 29in wheels. MAXX is a direct-sales custom builder from Rosenheim, so rather than fixed trims the bike is configured to order, with a choice between the Shimano EP600 and EP801 motors (both rated 85Nm and compatible with Shimano AUTO and FREE SHIFT). The frame uses MAXX's Octatube eight-sided down tube in 6061-T6 alloy and carries a removable 720Wh down-tube battery.

Because the bike is built through the configurator there is a single base specification rather than priced trims. That base build leans on dependable, serviceable Shimano kit: an XT Linkglide 11-speed drivetrain with an 11-50T cassette, four-piston Deore brakes on a 203/180mm rotor pairing, and a RockShox Psylo Gold RC fork matched to a Fox Float X TR shock. Hand-laced Sunringle/Newmen 30 Strong wheels on Schwalbe Nobby Nic tyres round out a touring-focused package.

Geometry is set up for relaxed, stable touring rather than aggressive trail riding. The 75 degree effective seat angle is consistent across the size run, and the head angle sits at 66.5 degrees on most sizes with the L slackened to 65 degrees per MAXX's published figures. Reach grows from 427mm on the S to 501mm on the XXL, with a long 470mm chainstay across all sizes and short seat tubes to suit long dropper posts. The five-size range covers riders from 1.60m to 2.08m.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
61

A solid all-round descender (65° head angle, 130mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
42

A fair bit of pop, but happiest on flowing trail rather than trials moves.

Size balance
78

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.68) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
75

Shimano EP6 (DU-EP600) and a steep 75° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toBig-day all-rounders who climb a lot and still descend hard.

Strong up and composed down — a do-it-all, not a specialist.

Watch out forNo major red flags in the L geometry.

The numbers are well balanced for its category.
