EMTB Forums verdict

The Lapierre Overvolt 2025 is a French-built aluminium all-mountain eMTB built around the latest Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor and an 800 Wh PowerTube pack, with a clever three-position flip-chip that lets riders run full 29er, mullet or full 27.5 inch wheels on the same frame. Headline numbers: 170 mm of fork travel, 160 mm at the rear, 24.1 kg claimed, 120 Nm of CX Gen 5 peak torque, a 64.5 to 65 degree head angle and reach stepping from 433 mm on S to 508 mm on XL across multiple geo configurations. The community framing is value-led: @jezhumphrey75 highlights Overvolt with Bosch Gen 5 and a big battery turning up at around £3000 in promotion, marking it as one of the best-value routes into a CX Gen 5 chassis.

Drive system and range. Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 delivers 120 Nm of peak torque, 250 W nominal, a claimed 750 W peak and a 2.8 kg motor weight. This is the latest and most refined Bosch unit, with the deepest dealer-service network and the smoothest 100 to 120 Nm power ramp. The Bosch PowerTube 800 Wh battery is removable. Real-world range on Bosch 800 Wh at this travel typically lands 40 to 60 miles in mixed assist, with prior-generation Overvolt owner @Arichar reporting 40 miles on the standard battery on the older chassis. The Gen 5 motor brings efficiency gains over Gen 4, so range should improve further.

Geometry and handling. The flip-chip lets you pick from three positions: full 29er (steeper HA, longer CS), mullet (mid setting), or full 27.5 inch (slackest, shortest CS), with the head angle shifting between 64.5 and 65 degrees and the chainstay between 455 and 460 mm. Reach steps clean: 433 mm S, 455 to 458 mm M, 475 to 483 mm L and 500 to 508 mm XL depending on configuration. Wheelbases run 1231 to 1325 mm. The 65 degree high setting reads steeper than typical all-mountain norms, putting the bike on the trail-leaning side of the all-mountain envelope rather than enduro-aggressive.

Build and value. Two trims. AM 4.6 at £5499 with RockShox Domain Gold RC fork and Shimano four-piston brakes on 203 mm rotors. GLP III Elite at £7599 stepping up to Fox 38 Float Performance Elite GRIP2 fork, Fox Float X Performance Elite shock, Shimano Deore XT M8120 four-piston brakes and full Deore XT 12-speed transmission. The 24.1 kg claimed weight is competitive at this travel and battery size: it is a real win for the Supreme 5 hydroformed aluminium chassis design.

Community-verified strengths. Owners praise three things. The Bosch CX Gen 5 motor and 800 Wh battery combination is widely recognised as a sensible match for all-mountain duty. The three-mode flip-chip is a genuinely useful feature for riders who want to experiment with wheel-size setups without buying a new bike. And the value proposition is strong, with @jezhumphrey75 spotting Gen 5 Overvolt examples at around £3000.

Caveats and known gripes. Three honest flags. Prior-generation Overvolt has documented durability concerns: @Thecheekymonkey reports a 927i frame that snapped at the seat stay, was welded once and snapped again within 12 months. @Maxb reports a 3rd-gen Bosch CX motor failing at 90 miles, the replacement lasting 500 miles, with water ingress suspected in the drive-side bearing. @Arichar flags the older battery charge port location on the skid plate being prone to opening during rides and causing water ingress. These are prior-generation issues; the 2025 Gen 5 chassis is a redesign with a new shock mount, but Lapierre's dealer network outside France remains thinner than Bosch's headline-brand partners. Plus @Maxi reports a seized bolt on the prior 2024 AM 6.7 requiring >28 Nm to move.

Verdict. The Lapierre Overvolt 2025 is for the value-driven rider who wants a French-built aluminium all-mountain eMTB with the latest Bosch CX Gen 5 motor, three wheel-size setups in one frame and a sub-25 kg weight. If you want the slackest enduro geometry, a stronger dealer network or proven frame durability data, look at a Canyon Torque:ON or Cannondale Moterra LT. Production status is current.
