EMTB Forums verdict

The 2022 Kona Remote is a 29in aluminium hardtail trail eMTB built on a Kona 6061 butted alloy frame derived from the Honzo. It runs a Shimano STEPS E7000 motor (250W, 60Nm) with an in-tube 504Wh battery, and pairs 140mm of Suntour Zeron35 front travel with a hardtail rear for a simple, practical package aimed at riders dipping a toe into e-MTB.

The single build is value-focused Shimano throughout: a 1x10 Deore drivetrain with an 11-46t cassette and 34t chainring, MT410 hydraulic brakes on a 203mm front and 180mm rear rotor, and a TranzX internal dropper. Rolling kit is WTB ST i35 rims wrapped in Maxxis Minion DHF 2.6in front and DHR II 2.4in rear, giving it more grip and descending intent than a typical entry hardtail.

Geometry is trail-oriented but conservative by later standards, with a fixed 66 degree head angle and 76.1 degree seat angle across all four sizes, reach growing from 425mm on the S to 510mm on the XL, short 435mm chainstays and a 320mm BB height. It sits below the full-suspension Remote 160 and shorter-travel Remote 130 in Kona's 2022 e-MTB range.

This bike is discontinued and was only sold as one unnamed build, so availability is limited to remaining stock and the used market. There is no owner forum history captured here, so no reliability or long-term ride data is asserted. Launch price was listed at 4,799 USD; a genuine GBP RRP was not verified this session.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
62

A solid all-round descender (66° head angle, 140mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
73

Short 435mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.

Size balance
89

Balanced front-to-rear in L (FC:RC 1.83) — weight sits evenly between the wheels.

Technical climbing
59

Climbs well — a 76.1° seat keeps the front planted. 250W of peak power and 60Nm of torque.

Best suited toPlayful trail riding — jumps, pumps and tight, techy singletrack.

Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.

Watch out forNo major red flags in the L geometry.

The numbers are well balanced for its category.

“Kona’s got a bike worth looking at. Definitely real Trail Bike geometry in keeping with their Process series. Not very many eMTB truly this progressive in the geometry. Rides great. Fits 27+ or 29 widetrail. Rides great! Shimano drive.…”
