EMTB Forums verdict

The Kona Remote 160 was the brand's value-led, longer-travel aluminium e-MTB, built to make self-shuttling gravity rides affordable. It pairs 160mm of travel front and rear with 29in wheels, a 65-degree head angle and a Kona 6061 butted aluminium frame, sitting above the trail-focused Remote 130 in the range.

This is a single-build bike at GBP 3,499, and the spec is unapologetically budget-conscious. Power comes from a Shimano STEPS E7000 motor and a 504Wh internal battery, the lighter-duty system in Shimano's range rather than the EP8 found on pricier rivals. Stopping is handled by four-piston TRP Slate EVO brakes on 203mm rotors front and rear, which is generous, while shifting runs Microshift's wide-range Advent X 10-speed. RockShox 35 Gold RL and Deluxe Select+ damping, plus Maxxis Minion DHF and DHR II EXO+ tyres, round out a sensible if no-frills package.

Geometry is steady and confidence-inspired for the era: 65-degree head angle across all sizes, 435mm chainstays, a 345mm bottom bracket height and reach growing from 425mm on the S to 510mm on the XL. It is more measured than aggressive, suiting riders who want stability for descending without a race-bred ride position.

The Remote 160 is discontinued. Within Kona's e-MTB line it sat as the affordable, longer-travel option, with the pricier Shimano EP8-powered Remote 160 DL above it for riders wanting more battery and a higher-end build.

“Kona’s got a bike worth looking at. Definitely real Trail Bike geometry in keeping with their Process series. Not very many eMTB truly this progressive in the geometry. Rides great. Fits 27+ or 29 widetrail. Rides great! Shimano drive.…”
