Remote 130 2024

The Kona Remote 130 was the brand's mid-travel aluminium trail eMTB, pitched as a cross between the Process 134 trail bike and the bigger Remote 160. It ran 130mm of rear travel on a four-bar frame paired with a 140mm Fox Rhythm 34 fork, full 29in wheels and grippy Maxxis Minion DHF/DHR II EXO+ rubber. A slack 65 degree head angle, steep effective seat angle (around 76.5 degrees) and moderate 435mm chainstays across all sizes gave it a stable but lively all-mountain stance rather than a long, low enduro one.

It was sold as a single Shimano-equipped build. The drive system is Shimano's older STEPS E7000 motor (60 Nm) fed by a 504Wh internal battery, which is modest on both torque and capacity next to the 85 Nm EP8 systems and 600 to 750Wh packs that rivals were moving to. The rest of the kit is sensible and consistent: a near-full Shimano Deore 12-speed transmission, Shimano Deore brakes on 203mm front / 180mm rear rotors, WTB KOM rims and a TranzX dropper. Launch UK RRP was around 5,199.

The Remote 130 is now discontinued. Kona's electric trail range moved on from the E7000 platform, and the model no longer appears on Kona's site (its product page returns a 404). With its lower-torque motor and 504Wh battery it reads as an entry-to-mid eMTB by current standards, though the geometry and well-judged Maxxis and Fox spec keep it credible as a value used buy.
