EMTB Forums verdict

The Ibis Oso HD 2025 is the longest-travel variant of Ibis's full-power Oso platform, a carbon enduro eMTB built around Bosch's latest Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor. Headline numbers: 170 mm of fork travel, 165 mm rear, 120 Nm of torque, 750 W peak power, a 600 Wh battery and a properly slack 62.3 to 63.1 degree head angle that varies by size. Reach grows from 428 to 522 mm across five sizes, including Ibis's signature XM size that bridges M and L. Community verdict: a serious, gravity-focused American enduro chassis with size-specific geometry and one of the more aggressive head angles in the full-power class.

Drive system and range. The Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 is the headline motor for 2025, with 120 Nm of peak torque and 750 W of peak power after Bosch's PU2.0 firmware update. The motor weighs 2.8 kg. Ibis pairs the CX Gen 5 with a 600 Wh internal battery, smaller than the 750 to 800 Wh packs found on most European rivals, which reflects Ibis's positioning of the Oso HD as a balanced enduro chassis rather than a maximum-range tool. Real-world enduro use on 600 Wh typically delivers 40 to 60 km per charge depending on assist mode and terrain, with Bosch's PowerMore range extender available as an option for longer rides.

Geometry and handling. The 62.3 to 63.1 degree head angle is properly slack, putting the Oso HD in the same gravity-focused conversation as the Pivot Shuttle LT and the Trek Slash+. Crucially, Ibis uses size-specific geometry: head angle steepens 0.8 degrees from S to M and stays at 63.1 degrees through XM, L and XL. The chainstay grows from 440 mm on S and M to 455 mm on XM, L and XL, which gives bigger riders proportional rear centres. Wheelbases span 1233 to 1357 mm. Reach spans 428 mm in S to 522 mm in XL, with the XM size at 474 mm filling the typical Ibis 'in-between' gap that many riders fall into. 29-inch wheels across the range.

Build and value. Ibis publishes a single Oso HD trim path at launch, with detailed component specifications dependent on dealer and configuration. The standout strengths are the chassis itself, with size-specific chainstays and the XM size point, and the Bosch CX Gen 5 motor as the latest-generation full-power Bosch option. Ibis maintains a US-led dealer model with limited UK distribution, which means UK buyers should expect direct-imported pricing and longer service lead times.

Caveats and known gripes. The 600 Wh battery is smaller than most European enduro rivals at 750 to 800 Wh. Riders doing long alpine days will likely want the PowerMore range extender. Ibis UK distribution and dealer reach are thinner than the bigger European brands, which can complicate warranty and motor service for British buyers. As a relatively niche enduro carbon chassis at the longest-travel end of the Oso line, community visibility for the Oso HD specifically is limited, with fewer long-term rider reports than mainstream rivals. The price has not been published in our gold record at the time of writing, suggesting dealer-specific configuration pricing.

Verdict. The Oso HD 2025 suits the serious enduro rider who wants a slack-angle, size-specific carbon chassis with the latest Bosch CX Gen 5 drive and Ibis's well-regarded ride feel, and who can live with a smaller 600 Wh battery and US-led dealer model. Riders wanting bigger battery, deeper UK dealer support or stronger long-term community visibility should look at the Cannondale Moterra Neo, the Giant Reign E+ or the Specialized Kenevo. Production status: current.
