EMTB Forums verdict

The Trance X Advanced E+ was Giant's first carbon full-power trail E-MTB, arriving for 2022 as the flagship above the alloy Trance X E+. It pairs an Advanced-grade composite frame with 140mm of Maestro rear travel and a 150mm fork on a full 29in wheel setup, and runs the full-power SyncDrive Pro motor (85Nm, co-developed with Yamaha) fed by a downtube-integrated 625Wh EnergyPak Smart battery, with a 250Wh EnergyPak Plus range extender as an option.

Two carbon trims were sold in the UK. The Advanced E+ 1 at £6,999 was the headline build, with Fox 36 Live Valve electronic fork and Float X Live Valve shock, a Shimano Deore XT 12-speed drivetrain, Shimano four-piston brakes on 203mm rotors and Giant AM alloy wheels. The Advanced E+ 2 at £5,999 kept the same carbon frame, motor and battery but stepped down to a conventional Fox 36 Float Performance fork and DPS Performance shock, a Shimano SLX 12-speed drivetrain and Shimano Deore brakes. Both rolled on Maxxis Assegai front and Dissector rear 2.6in tyres. A pricier Advanced E+ 0 with full Fox Live Valve and XT also existed for 2022 but is tracked separately.

Geometry is adjustable via a flip chip, giving a slacker, lower Low setting (around 65.7 to 65.8 degrees head angle, 30mm BB drop) and a steeper, higher High setting (66.5 degrees, 20mm BB drop). Reach on a size L runs 482mm Low to 489mm High, and chainstays are a consistent 473mm across all sizes, reflecting the full-power motor and battery packaging. This generation is now discontinued and turns up at clearance pricing.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Setting
Descending
58

A solid all-round descender (65.8° head angle, 140mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
31

More planted than poppy — better on steep terrain than tight, fiddly singletrack.

Size balance
78

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.68) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
77

Giant SyncDrive Pro and a steep 76° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toBig-day all-rounders who climb a lot and still descend hard.

Strong up and composed down — a do-it-all, not a specialist.

Watch out forNot a flickable, playful bike — built to plough, not pop.

Brilliant on fast, rough, steep terrain; less fun on tight, mellow trails.

⚙️ Adjustable geometry: this frame has a high/low setting — low drops the BB and slackens the head angle for more descending stability; high lifts the BB and steepens slightly for clearance and a perkier, more playful feel.
Computed from geometry + spec, not a paid review. Scores are guidance, not gospel.
