EMTB Forums verdict

The Talon E+ is Giant's entry-level aluminium hardtail eMTB, an all-new generation built around an ALUXX frame with a removable EnergyPak Smart 430Wh battery slid into a slim down tube. At £2,299 it sits at the affordable end of the eMTB market, aimed as much at fitness, commuting and gravel-track duty as it is at light trail riding.

It is sold as a single build, so there is no trim ladder to weigh up. The spec is honest rather than flashy: an SR Suntour XCM coil fork with 100mm of travel, a 9-speed Shimano Cues drivetrain, Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes on 180mm rotors front and rear, and Maxxis Rekon 29in tyres. It is a clean, serviceable kit list at the price, with a UDH dropout leaving the door open for a drivetrain upgrade later.

Power comes from Giant's SyncDrive Sport 2 motor rated at 75Nm with a claimed 400 per cent maximum support, paired with the RideControl Dash 2 colour display and app tuning. At a claimed 21.7kg for a medium it is light for a full-power eMTB, helped by the modest 430Wh pack, which can be supplemented with an EnergyPak Plus range extender.

Geometry is upright and stable rather than aggressive: a 68-degree head angle across all four sizes, a fixed 470mm chainstay, and reach growing from 404mm in S to 452mm in XL. The 100mm fork and conservative angles point this firmly at smooth trails, towpaths and dirt roads rather than steep technical terrain.
