EMTB Forums verdict

The Focus SAM2 6.0 2025 is the German brand's flagship aluminium e-enduro: 170 mm fork paired with 165 mm rear travel, Focus's F.O.L.D. linkage-driven single-pivot kinematics, the new Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor at 120 Nm and a 750 W peak, and a removable Bosch PowerTube 800 Wh battery. The 26.7 kg claimed weight is on the heavier side of the class but typical of an alloy frame with a big battery. At £7,500 for the top 6.0 trim it sits in upper-mid territory and squares up against Trek Rail+, Cube Stereo Hybrid One77 and Specialized Levo Alloy.

Drive system and range. Bosch CX Gen 5 is the bike's centrepiece: 120 Nm of torque, 750 W peak (the gold-authoritative figures) and the most refined Smart System ecosystem on the market. The PowerTube battery is removable and 800 Wh capacity (the gold spec lists "PowerTube 600" but capacity 800 Wh — the larger battery shipping on SAM2 6.0 builds). Real-world range with Bosch CX Gen 5 and 800 Wh consistently sits at 1,500–2,000 m of climbing per charge in mixed riding. A rider migrating from a Focus Jam2 6.8 confirmed the SAM2 6.0 uses the 750 Wh removable PowerTube battery on early production builds — worth checking battery spec with the dealer at order time as Focus has been transitioning.

Geometry and handling. The 64.5 degree head angle is bang in the modern enduro sweet spot — slacker than trail bikes but not so extreme as to compromise climbing or slow-speed manoeuvring. Reach is one of the best in class, progressing from 435 mm (SM) through 465 mm (MD), 490 mm (LG) to a generous 520 mm (XL). The 448 mm chainstay is held constant across sizes; on a 26.7 kg alloy enduro this is sensible. Wheelbase grows from 1,228 mm to 1,331 mm — the XL is genuinely long, ideal for tall riders. The mullet 29/27.5 wheel format is standard and matches the long-travel descending intent. F.O.L.D. is Focus's proven layout: linkage-driven single-pivot kinematics with good small-bump sensitivity and progressive bottom-out support.

Build and value. Three trims share the same hydroformed 7005 aluminium chassis. The £7,500 6.0 top trim is the standout: RockShox ZEB Ultimate fork (170 mm), RockShox Vivid Coil Ultimate shock (165 mm rear), SRAM GX Eagle AXS Transmission and DT Swiss HFR1700 mullet 29/27.5 wheelset. The 6.8 and 6.9 trims drop pricing and spec. A coil shock at this price is unusual and a clear nod to the bike's bike-park/big-day enduro intent.

Caveats and known gripes. Owner feedback on the SAM2 6.0 is thin on the forum at present — only one rider quote captured. They were "venting frustration" coming from a Focus Jam2 6.8, which signals the SAM2's heavier, longer-travel character may not suit every rider migrating from Focus's lighter trail platform. At 26.7 kg this is a heavy bike compared to carbon-framed Avinox alternatives at 21–23 kg, and the aluminium frame is the main reason. The 448 mm chainstay is moderate-length and held constant across sizes, so XL riders with a 520 mm reach don't get a proportionally stretched rear-centre. Focus's UK dealer footprint is solid but smaller than Trek/Specialized; warranty turnaround should be checked locally. The 6.0 at £7,500 is the same price as an Evil Epocalypse with EP801 and only modestly less than a Centurion No Pogo R5000 in carbon — the value proposition rests on the build kit rather than the chassis material.

Verdict. The Focus SAM2 6.0 is a heavy-hitter alloy e-enduro with everything in the right place: Bosch CX Gen 5 power, 800 Wh removable battery, mullet wheels, ZEB Ultimate fork and coil Vivid shock. It will suit riders who prioritise descending performance, big-day capability and Bosch reliability over outright lightness, and who appreciate a coil-shock spec at the £7,500 price point. Buyers wanting a sub-23 kg carbon enduro or first-hand community ownership data should consider a Cube One77 SLX or Apache Eagle alternative. Production status: current.
