Steeper 69° and shorter travel — happiest descending smooth, flowy trail rather than properly rough or steep terrain.

Practical Bosch hardtail for commutes and easy off-road paths

The 2022 Focus Jarifa² is an entry-level aluminium hardtail eMTB, sitting right on the line between cross-country mountain bike and trekking machine. Focus filed it under its E-Mountainbike Hardtail range, and the recipe backs that up: mountain bike geometry, a 100 mm SR Suntour fork, 29" (or 27.5" on the SEVEN) wheels and knobby Schwalbe Smart Sam tyres. Focus' own classification text caps drops at 15 cm and pitches it at unpaved roads and trails of moderate gradient, so this is a do-it-all hardtail rather than a trail weapon.
Power comes from the Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 (85 Nm) with a Purion display. The flagship MY22 6.7 carries a 625 Wh PowerTube that can be paired with a second pack for up to 1125 Wh, while the smaller-wheeled 6.7 SEVEN runs a 500 Wh pack. Both batteries are removable for charging. Kit is sensible and serviceable: 10-speed Shimano Deore, Shimano hydraulic discs, FSA cranks and an alloy cockpit, with the 29er weighing a claimed 22.7 kg.
Practicality is the selling point. Mounts for a rack, mudguards, lights and a stand, a 150 kg system weight limit and trailer approval make it a genuine commute-and-tour hardtail that can still wander off the tarmac. It is not a long-travel trail bike and the conservative 68 to 69 degree head angle reflects that.
The Jarifa² has since been discontinued, so any examples will be on the used market. For a calm-handling, rack-friendly hardtail eMTB with Bosch power it remains a sound second-hand option, just do not expect modern trail-bike geometry or travel.
What the numbers mean on the trail
Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.
Short 470mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.
Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.53) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.
Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 and a steep 73.5° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 600W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.
Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.
Fine at trail pace; it'll feel out of its depth on properly rough, steep tracks.
