Brose S-Mag-powered aluminium mullet eMTB with 720Wh battery

The Fantic XMF 2024 is an aluminium full-power all-mountain eMTB built around the Brose Drive S Mag motor, sitting in the increasingly heavy 170 mm class. Headline numbers: 90 Nm of torque, 720 Wh removable Fantic Integra battery, 170 mm of travel front and rear, a 65.0 to 65.5 degree head angle and 24.9 kg claimed at £5,299 base. Community feedback flags the bike's distinctively quiet Brose motor character and short seatpost insertion as the two notes most worth knowing.
Drive system and range. The Brose Drive S Mag is the smooth-and-quiet choice among full-power motors, with 90 Nm of torque, a 565 W manufacturer-claimed peak and a 2.9 kg weight. The standout characteristic, flagged by harrysmalls, is "zero resistance when motor is off" — Brose's drive engagement is famously transparent, more so than competing Bosch and Shimano units. The Fantic Integra 720 Wh battery is removable, which matters for owners without dedicated charging. On a 24.9 kg 170 mm platform, expect comfortable three-and-a-half to four-and-a-half hours of mixed-terrain real-world ride time, with the Brose's natural-feeling delivery making mid-power modes feel more satisfying than the raw torque figure suggests.
Geometry and handling. The XMF runs on a Full Floater rear suspension layout and three sizes (S, M, L) only, with reach progressing from 425 mm (S) to 460 mm (M) and 480 mm (L). The head angle is fixed at 65.0 to 65.5 degrees depending on size, which by modern enduro standards is on the steeper side. The 459 mm chainstay is shared across the range and the wheelbase grows from 1,241 mm (S) to 1,270 mm (L). harrysmalls confirms the 65.5 degree HA on the L. The lack of XL is a real limitation for taller riders looking for modern long-and-low geometry.
Build and value. One base trim is on file at £5,299, with the alloy frame, Brose Drive S Mag motor, 720 Wh Integra battery and Fantic's house-spec component package. At this price point the XMF undercuts most Brose-equipped 170 mm carbon rivals significantly. The trade-off is the alloy frame weight on what is already a heavy class, and the conservative geometry numbers.
Community-verified strengths. First, smooth motor character: harrysmalls rates the Brose Drive S Mag as effectively resistance-free with the motor off, which sets it apart from Bosch and Shimano alternatives. Second, durable construction: Bomble reports a friend's "160 race Fantic" was "a great bike, really nice to ride and he hardly had any issues with it", suggesting Fantic's build quality is sound.
Caveats and known gripes. First, seatpost insertion is restrictive: R120 flags that "on a L you get a 125mm seatpost and that can't be fully inserted", a real limitation for taller riders or those preferring longer-drop droppers. Second, dropper reliability concerns: Bomble reports the only consistent issue was a "flakey dropper post due to cable routing". Third, factory quality control: harrysmalls received his XMF with a "seat post given up the gas", a bent front rotor, and a small dent in the seat stay — issues that the dealer agreed to resolve but that point to QC variance.
Verdict. The Fantic XMF 2024 suits riders who specifically want the Brose Drive S Mag motor character — quiet, smooth, natural-feeling — in a long-travel 170 mm alloy chassis at a price that undercuts most carbon rivals, and who are comfortable buying a smaller-distribution brand. Less suitable for taller riders needing modern long droppers, buyers who want the latest aggressive enduro geometry, or anyone who prioritises factory QC and dealer support over headline value. Production status: current.
