A solid all-round descender (64.8° head angle, 150mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Sturdy alloy all-mountain bike on reliable Shimano EP8 power

Launched on 25 May 2022, the all-new Devinci E-Troy is a 29in all-mountain eMTB built around 150mm of Split Pivot rear travel and a 160mm fork. The 6061-T6 aluminium frame (Optimum G04) carries Shimano's EP8 motor (85Nm) and a sizeable 725Wh BMZ battery, with moulded frame, motor and battery protection. It slots below the longer-travel E-Spartan (170mm rear / 180mm front) as Devinci's do-it-all electric trail bike.
Geometry is modern but not extreme: a 64.8-degree head angle across all four sizes, steep 77.7 to 78.1-degree seat angles for climbing, a consistent 455mm chainstay and a 347mm BB height, with reach growing from 445mm (S) to 510mm (XL). Wheelbase spans 1227mm to 1305mm. There is no flip chip, so the geometry stays fixed.
Two builds were offered, both on the alloy frame. The Deore 12S EP8 (US$7,599, 24.9kg) pairs a Fox 36 fork and Fox Float X with a full Shimano Deore drivetrain and MT520 four-piston brakes. The GX 12S (US$8,529, 24.7kg) steps up to a Fox 38 Performance Elite fork, SRAM GX Eagle, SRAM Code R brakes and RaceFace Aeffect wheels, making it the stronger pick for riders chasing the burlier chassis.
What the numbers mean on the trail
Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.
A fair bit of pop, but happiest on flowing trail rather than trials moves.
Balanced front-to-rear in L (FC:RC 1.82) — weight sits evenly between the wheels.
Shimano EP8 (DU-EP800) and a steep 77.9° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.
Strong up and composed down — a do-it-all, not a specialist.
The numbers are well balanced for its category.
