Reaction Hybrid 2026
How current the bike is — newer chassis, motor and battery score higher. 10 = brand-new, 0 = legacy.

The Cube Reaction Hybrid 2026 is a full-power aluminium hardtail built around Bosch's most capable trail motor, a serious 800 Wh battery, and 120 mm of front travel — positioned squarely at riders who want genuine all-day range and proven drivetrain reliability without the weight penalty or price of a full-suspension platform. At 24.8–25.9 kg depending on trim, it sits in the heavier bracket for a hardtail, but the community's broad consensus is that the Bosch powertrain earns its keep on the climbs.
Drive system & range
The Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 delivers 85 Nm of torque and a manufacturer-claimed peak of 600 W from a 2.9 kg motor unit. That torque figure is strong for a 250 W-rated system and the CX Gen 4's trail-tuned power delivery is well documented across the platform. Paired with the 800 Wh PowerTube battery — integrated into the downtube — this is one of the largest-capacity packs in the hardtail category, and real-world range is meaningfully better than 500–625 Wh predecessors that owners of earlier Reaction Hybrids rode.
One live firmware question worth flagging: @rscreen noted that the 2026 Pro's Bosch BDU384Y motor unit may not yet support the new 45 km/h speed option, and that not all CX Gen 4 motors have been confirmed for that feature. Worth verifying with your dealer before purchase if extended-speed modes matter to you. The standard UK assist cuts out at 15.5 mph regardless, as @Revelator1969 confirmed on an earlier Reaction Hybrid — that is a legal constant, not a Cube-specific quirk.
Geometry & handling
The 67.5° head angle is on the slacker end for a 120 mm hardtail, which translates to more confidence on technical descents than the category average. Reach scales from 409 mm (S) to 471 mm (XXL) — a sensible 62 mm spread across five sizes that gives most riders a genuine fit rather than forcing a compromise. The MX wheel setup (29-inch front, 27.5-inch rear) lowers the bottom bracket relative to a straight 29er, aiding cornering clearance and handling agility on tighter singletrack.
Chainstay length jumps from 456 mm on the S to 470 mm on M through XXL and stays fixed there, which keeps the bigger sizes from feeling too stretched. Wheelbase runs 1157–1240 mm across the range — proportionate for the travel and head angle, and not unusually long. Size S riders should note the fork travel drops to 100 mm on all three trims, which does affect the head angle calculation slightly and is a real consideration for shorter riders who want maximum trail capability.
Build & value
Three trims span £2,699 to £3,299 — a £600 window with meaningful, not cosmetic, differences. The entry ONE 800 at £2,699 runs an SR Suntour XCM34 coil fork and Shimano BR-MT200 two-piston brakes with 180 mm rotors. The coil fork is competent but not tunable, and two-piston stoppers on a 25.9 kg bike are the weakest point in the package.
Step to the Pro 800 at £2,899 and you gain an SR Suntour X1-32 air fork (adjustable, same 120 mm travel) and, critically, Shimano BR-MT420 four-piston brakes with 203 mm rotors — a meaningful upgrade for a bike this weight. At £200 over the ONE, that step is good value. The Race 800 at £3,299 brings a RockShox Recon Silver RL air fork — noticeably stiffer and better damped than either Suntour option — and Magura Louise four-piston brakes, though it reverts to 180 mm rotors. The Race sheds 1.1 kg versus the ONE (24.8 kg vs 25.9 kg), partly through the fork upgrade.
Community-verified strengths
- The Bosch CX Gen 4 powertrain inspires owner confidence: @RobbieMcManus describes an earlier Reaction Hybrid Pro as "solid and simple," the kind of reliability praise that recurs across owner threads.
- The platform rewards upgrading: @slenemtbforums recommends the Marzocchi Bomber Z2 140 mm as a fork upgrade — lighter than stock, 34 mm stanchions, more travel, and it slackens the front end further, showing the frame has headroom beyond its stock spec.
- Day-to-day rideability gets consistent praise: @audistwo collected a Race 750 and called it a "fantastic machine" after an 11-mile first ride, with only minor fit adjustments needed out of the box.
Caveats & known gripes
- Motor bash guard durability is a real concern: @andyinpembs reports that a single rock strike destroyed the bash guard on a 2023 Reaction Hybrid, and replacement parts are hard
