EMTB Forums verdict

The Canyon Torque:ON 2022 was Canyon's e-park aluminium enduro/super-enduro eMTB, designed for bike park duties and the rowdiest descending. Built around the Shimano EP8 (DU-EP800) motor (85 Nm torque, 250 W rated, 500 W manufacturer-claimed peak, 2.6 kg) and a dual-battery system using the Shimano BT-E8036 (630 Wh) plus 504 Wh range extender for 1,224 Wh total combined capacity. Travel is properly aggressive at 180 mm front and 175 mm rear on an aluminium 4-bar chassis. Two trims — 8 Dual Battery at £4,999 (23.7 kg) and 9 Dual Battery at £6,799 (23.81 kg). Four sizes from SM to XL, reach 435-510 mm, head angle 63.5 degrees flat, chainstays 430 mm flat. The community read in one line: a properly aggressive e-park bike with class-leading combined battery capacity and DH-adjacent geometry, now discontinued and superseded by the more recent Torque:ON CF generation, with documented battery recall concerns.

Drive system and range. The Shimano EP8 was Shimano's then-flagship eMTB motor — 85 Nm torque, smooth and well-supported. The dual-battery system was the headline: 630 Wh internal Shimano BT-E8036 plus 504 Wh range extender for 1,224 Wh combined — class-leading capacity for 2022. Real-world range pushed well into all-day shuttle/park territory. @R120 documented 45 mile rides with spare battery in a pack on his Spectral:ON, with the Torque:ON having the same dual-battery format.

Geometry and handling. Aggressive, DH-adjacent. 63.5 degree head angle flat across all four sizes — proper bike park territory, slacker than typical enduro. Reach progresses 435 mm (SM), 460 mm (MD), 485 mm (LG), 510 mm (XL). Chainstays held at 430 mm flat — very short for the travel, giving the bike a flickable feel rather than monster-truck stability. Wheelbase 1214-1302 mm. @jooles notes the geometry is "designed for descending" with 74 degree seat tube angle and short chainstays.

Build and value. Two trims well-spaced. The 8 Dual Battery at £4,999 (23.7 kg) is the entry — expect RockShox Zeb Select or Fox 38 Performance at 180 mm front, RockShox Super Deluxe Coil/Air shock or similar at 175 mm rear, four-piston brakes and Shimano XT or SLX drivetrain. The 9 Dual Battery at £6,799 (23.81 kg) steps up suspension and drivetrain. @Th3bill documented an extensively modified Torque:ON CF8 build with MRP Lift damper, coil-converted air spring, Smashpot, Hayes Dominion A4 brakes and GX Transmission — the chassis welcomes serious upgrades.

Community-verified strengths.

  • @smtkelly: "Canyon Torque:ON 8 praised for good price and nice paint options." Direct-to-consumer pricing made the Torque:ON one of the strongest value plays in the 2022 e-park category.
  • @Th3bill documents extensive upgrade compatibility on the CF chassis — MRP, Hayes, GX Transmission, OneUp Carbon — the platform welcomes high-end aftermarket builds.
  • 1,224 Wh combined battery capacity (internal + range extender) was class-leading for 2022 and remains competitive today against many 800-900 Wh single-battery rivals.

Caveats and known gripes.

  • Production status: discontinued. New buyers will be looking at second-hand examples or the more recent Torque:ON CF generation.
  • @fankus and other owners documented Canyon's major battery safety recall on Torque:ON CF and Spectral:ON CF/CFR — used buyers should verify any recall work has been completed and the battery is the replacement/safe variant.
  • @AshHaushaltswaren: "150mm dropper post on all sizes — criticized as too short for an enduro bike." Stock dropper is the obvious immediate upgrade.
  • @Rob Rides EMTB notes "cannot run coil shocks — neither FOX nor RockShox approves coil due to shock extension design." Limits suspension upgrade options.
  • Fixed 430 mm chainstays across all sizes — no size-tuning. Short chainstays work for shorter riders but XL riders may want more stability.

Verdict. The Canyon Torque:ON 2022 was a properly aggressive aluminium e-park bike with class-leading dual-battery capacity and Canyon's signature direct-to-consumer value pricing. As a current new purchase it's no longer available — used examples in good condition (with recall battery work completed and clean wiring harness) remain genuine bargains for buyers who want a 180/175 mm e-park bike at a strong used price. Look at the current generation Torque:ON CF, the Canyon Spectral:ON, Norco Range VLT or Kona Remote X for new purchases at similar travel and price. Production status: discontinued.
