EMTB Forums verdict

The Canyon Spectral:ONfly was the German direct-seller's first lightweight trail eMTB, built around the compact 1,850 g TQ-HPR50 motor (50 Nm, 300 W peak) and a fully integrated 360 Wh battery, with an optional 160 Wh range extender adding a claimed 44 per cent more range. The carbon frame weighs from around 2.65 kg and complete bikes start around 18 kg, putting it firmly in the light-assist camp rather than the full-power category. Geometry is genuinely modern for a mid-power bike: a slack 64-degree head angle, steep 76.5-degree seat tube, fixed 440 mm chainstays and a mullet 29/27.5 wheel set, with 150 mm of rear travel and a 160 mm fork.

Four builds were sold for 2024, all sharing the same chassis, TQ motor and Canyon G5 dropper. The CF 8 at £5,199 is the value pick, pairing a RockShox Lyrik and Deluxe Select+ with a Shimano Deore drivetrain and SRAM Code R brakes. The CF 9 at £5,849 steps up to a Fox 36 Performance fork, Fox DPS shock, Deore XT mech and XT four-piston brakes for not much more money, making it the sweet spot of the range. Above that sat the Fox 38-equipped CF CLLCTV at £6,799 and the range-topping CF LTD at £8,349 with a Fox 36 Factory GRIP2.

Every model carried Canyon's K.I.S. mechanical steering stabiliser housed in the top tube, plus very long droppers (200 mm on M and L, 230 mm on XL). The Spectral:ONfly is now superseded as a 2024 model year; Canyon has since carried the platform forward in its current Spectral:ONfly catalogue, so newer-year CF 8 and CF 9 builds remain available on the same frame.
