EMTB Forums verdict

The 2022 Spectral:ON was a ground-up reboot of Canyon's playful mullet e-MTB, and the first to wear a full-carbon frame with a carbon rear triangle. It pairs a 29in front wheel with a 27.5in rear, a 150mm fork (the frame is rated to 160mm) and 155mm of rear travel via Canyon's four-bar Triple Phase Suspension, all driven by Shimano's 85Nm EP8 motor. Canyon's own 720Wh battery is standard, with a high-capacity 900Wh pack offered as an option on everything bar size S.

Geometry was made longer and slacker than the outgoing bike: a 65.5 degree head angle, a 76.5 degree effective seat angle and reach growing 25mm per size from 435mm (S) to 510mm (XL), with a constant 440mm chainstay. The result is a more centred, stable descender that keeps the mullet rear wheel's flickability. The CF line spans the value-focused CF 7 (RockShox Lyrik Select, Shimano XT) through the Fox 36 Rhythm, SLX-braked CF 8 to the SRAM GX Eagle AXS, Fox 36 Performance Elite CF 9 on DT Swiss wheels, while the lighter CFR frame underpins the Fox Factory CFR and the SRAM AXS, RockShox Flight Attendant CFR LTD flagship that tips the scales at a notably light 22.05kg.

This generation has since been discontinued and superseded by later Spectral:ON models, so the 2022 bike is now an end-of-line buy. It remains a well-rounded, relatively light full-carbon mullet e-MTB with strong battery capacity and a sensible spread of builds.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
62

A solid all-round descender (65.5° head angle, 155mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
76

Short 440mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.

Size balance
85

Balanced front-to-rear in L (FC:RC 1.85) — weight sits evenly between the wheels.

Technical climbing
62

Climbs well — a 76.5° seat keeps the front planted. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toPlayful trail riding — jumps, pumps and tight, techy singletrack.

Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.

Watch out forNo major red flags in the L geometry.

The numbers are well balanced for its category.

⚙️ Adjustable geometry: this frame has a high/low setting — low drops the BB and slackens the head angle for more descending stability; high lifts the BB and steepens slightly for clearance and a perkier, more playful feel.
Computed from geometry + spec, not a paid review. Scores are guidance, not gospel.
