EMTB Forums verdict

The Canyon Neuron:ON 2026 in the AL Cllctv special-edition trim is an aluminium trail eMTB built around the Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor and an 800 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery. Travel is 140 mm front and 130 mm rear in the gold spec, head angle 64.1°, claimed weight 25.9 kg, and price £5,149. The Cllctv version layers in aggressive components — RockShox Zeb fork, SRAM Maven brakes, mullet wheels on M-XL — that turn what was historically a mellow trail bike into a credible all-rounder. The community verdict is conflicted: @rider reports EMBN praising it "highly for the price considering it has the new Gen 5 Bosch motor", but @drocho flags the headset cable routing and heavy weight as compromises.

Drive system and range. Bosch's CX Gen 5 produces 250 W rated, 750 W peak and the latest firmware figure of 120 Nm torque — a meaningful step up from the Gen 4 fitted to earlier Neuron:ON CF carbon models. The 800 Wh PowerTube battery is at the top of the Bosch ecosystem and combines with the optional PowerMore 250 Wh range extender for up to 1,050 Wh on big alpine days. Forum data points to roughly 4-6 hours of real-world trail riding on a charge depending on assist level. The Smart System brings Bluetooth diagnostics, Flow app integration and over-the-air firmware updates that have meaningfully expanded what the motor delivers compared to its release-day spec.

Geometry and handling. The 64.1° head angle is properly slack for a trail-badged bike and lines up with the aggressive trim intent. Reach climbs from 414 mm on the XS to 505 mm on the XL across five sizes, with a steady 25 mm jump between L and XL that matches what Specialized and Trek run. Chainstays grow from 452 mm on the smaller sizes to 455 mm on M, L and XL, helping keep the weight distribution balanced for taller riders. Wheelbase stretches 1,214-1,318 mm. XS and SM run full 27.5in wheels, while M, L and XL get the mullet 29/27.5in setup via a new rocker linkage.

Build and value. The AL Cllctv is the sole spec at £5,149 and bundles a striking parts list: RockShox Zeb Ultimate (38 mm stanchions), RockShox Super Deluxe Select shock, SRAM Maven Bronze four-piston brakes with 200 mm HS2 rotors and SRAM Eagle 90 Transmission. Maven brakes at this price are the standout — they are among the strongest stoppers in mountain biking and routinely show up on bikes costing £8,000+. DT Swiss H1900 wheels with Schwalbe Magic Mary Gravity tyres complete a notably enduro-leaning specification for a 140 mm trail platform.

Caveats and known gripes. The 2026 AL frame has moved to headset cable routing, which @drocho dislikes given the maintenance penalty when bearings need replacing or hoses re-routing. @rider notes Canyon's older CF Neuron:ON models had a non-removable battery, a long-running gripe; the 2026 AL retains the integrated 800 Wh PowerTube format and battery removal involves frame access. Service experience is a recurring concern: @yarg reports three-plus weeks of unresolved emails on a battery issue with a new Neuron:ON, and Canyon's direct-to-consumer model means no local dealer to escalate through. At 25.9 kg the bike is at the heavier end of the trail eMTB category.

Verdict. The Neuron:ON AL Cllctv is for the rider who wants a Bosch CX Gen 5, premium components (Zeb, Maven, Eagle 90) and an 800 Wh battery for under £5,200 — a genuinely strong specification ladder at the price. It is not for riders who want a tidy dealer-supported service path, hate headset cable routing or need the lightest trail bike in the test. Production is current and the bike is shipping direct from Canyon.
