A solid all-round descender (68° head angle, 120mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.
Grand Canyon:ON 2022
How current the bike is — newer chassis, motor and battery score higher. 10 = brand-new, 0 = legacy.
Affordable alloy hardtail for gentle trails and commuting duty

The 2022 Grand Canyon:ON is Canyon's first-generation alloy e-hardtail, and it differs markedly from the later Bosch-powered version. It runs a full-power Shimano STEPS EP8 motor (85 Nm) with an integrated, removable Shimano battery, a 120 mm fork (100 mm on the smallest size) and a deliberately approachable XC/trail geometry. As a direct-sale bike it undercuts equivalent shop-bought e-hardtails on price.
This model year uses a mixed wheel-size approach: sizes XS and S roll on 27.5in wheels (67 degree head angle) while M, L and XL use 29in wheels (68 degree head angle). Battery capacity follows the same split, with the smaller 27.5in frames carrying a 504 Wh pack and the 29in frames a 630 Wh pack. The geometry is stable rather than aggressive, with a 74 degree seat angle, 425 to 440 mm chainstays and reach from 395 mm to 475 mm.
Trim value is strong. The PS2,949 Grand Canyon:ON 7 pairs a Suntour XCM34 fork with a 10-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain and a rigid post. The PS3,199 Grand Canyon:ON 8 steps up to a RockShox Judy Silver fork, a 12-speed Shimano XT rear mech and the larger 630 Wh battery on bigger sizes, and is the lightest at a claimed 22.5 kg. The PS3,599 Grand Canyon:ON 9 adds a FOX 34 Rhythm fork, larger 203 mm brake rotors and an Iridium dropper post. Women's-specific 7 WMN and 8 WMN builds were also offered.
This model year is discontinued and was replaced by a Bosch Performance Line CX-powered Grand Canyon:ON for 2023, so the EP8 version is best viewed as a used or run-out buy rather than a current option.
What the numbers mean on the trail
Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.
Short 440mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.
Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.70) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.
Climbs well — a 74° seat keeps the front planted. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.
Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.
The numbers are well balanced for its category.
