Bulls Sonic EVO EN-SL 2022
EMTB Forums verdict

The Bulls Sonic EVO EN-SL was the lightweight, long-travel enduro member of the 2022 Sonic EVO line, built on a full carbon frame with 160mm up front and 150mm at the rear on 29in wheels. The SL (SuperLight) tag is the point of the bike: it paired a full carbon chassis and Bulls' own semi-integrated 750Wh Sonic V10 pack with the Shimano EP8 motor to keep weight well down for a full-power enduro eMTB, with the EN-SL 2 Carbon coming in at a claimed 22.1kg.

It was sold in three builds. The EN-SL 1 Carbon (around 5,999 euro) ran a RockShox Lyrik Select RC fork, Super Deluxe Select+ shock and a Shimano Deore/XT mix on Shimano WH-MT620 wheels. The EN-SL 2 Carbon (around 6,999 euro) stepped up to a Lyrik Ultimate fork, full Shimano XT 12-speed shifting, XT four-piston brakes and DT Swiss H1900 wheels. Topping the range, the EN-SL Daytona special edition (around 12,999 euro) was a boutique build with Intend Blackline Edge fork and Hover Gamechanger shock, SRAM XX AXS wireless shifting, TRP DH-R Evo brakes, DT Swiss HXC carbon wheels and a RockShox Reverb AXS post.

Geometry was consistent across all four sizes (40 to 51cm, mapped to S to XL): a 65 degree head angle, 450mm chainstays, a 23mm bottom bracket drop and reach growing from 420mm to 481mm. Wheelbases ran from 1202mm to 1271mm, placing it in middle-of-the-road territory for a modern enduro rig rather than the longest in class.

This is a discontinued 2022 model, superseded by the 2023 and later Sonic EVO EN-SL generations (which moved to the Shimano EP801 motor and a 725Wh-rated pack). As a German ZEG brand bike it was priced in euro with no UK RRP, so availability now is limited to remaining stock and the used market.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
61

A solid all-round descender (65° head angle, 150mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
71

Short 450mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.

Size balance
98

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.77) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
69

Climbs well — a 74° seat keeps the front planted. 500W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toPlayful trail riding — jumps, pumps and tight, techy singletrack.

Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.

Watch out forNo major red flags in the L geometry.

The numbers are well balanced for its category.
