Bulls Sonic EVO AM 2023
EMTB Forums verdict

The 2023 Bulls Sonic EVO AM is the full-power, all-mountain end of the Sonic family: 150mm of travel front and rear, a mullet 29in front / 27.5in rear wheel mix, and a Bosch Performance Line CX motor giving 85Nm from a frame-integrated PowerTube battery (500Wh on the alloy AM 1, up to 750Wh on the carbon trims). It is not to be confused with the lighter Sonic EVO AM-SL models, which run Shimano EP-series drive units.

The range climbs from the aluminium AM 1 on a SR Suntour fork and 10-speed Deore, through the carbon AM 2 on a BULLS Lytro air fork, to the RockShox-and-Shimano-XT-equipped AM 3 and AM 4, and on to the SRAM AXS-equipped AM-I. At the top, the AM Team is a race build with the Bosch CX Race motor, full RockShox Lyrik Ultimate suspension, SRAM XX1 Eagle AXS and an e*thirteen carbon wheel-and-crank package.

Geometry is consistent across the carbon mullet frame: a 65.5-degree head angle, a 75-degree effective seat angle, 450mm chainstays on every size, and reach growing from 420mm in S to 490mm in XL. It is a modern but not extreme all-mountain stance.

This is a discontinued 2023 model. Bulls carried the Sonic EVO AM forward into 2024 (the current sibling in this database), so spares and a like-for-like successor remain available.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
61

A solid all-round descender (65.5° head angle, 150mm) — capable in the rough and steep without being an all-out bruiser.

Playfulness
55

A fair bit of pop, but happiest on flowing trail rather than trials moves.

Size balance
93

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.75) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
71

Climbs well — a 75° seat keeps the front planted. 600W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toAll-round trail riding across mixed terrain.

No single standout trait — a balanced, versatile bike.

Watch out forNo major red flags in the L geometry.

The numbers are well balanced for its category.
