EMTB Forums verdict

The iLynx Race Carbon is BH's full-carbon XC and down-country eMTB, built on a 120mm travel HCIM carbon frame rolling on 29in wheels. It runs BH's own BHZ motor (developed with SEG Automotive) rated at 65 Nm and up to 500 W, fed by a 630Wh in-frame battery that extends to 810Wh with the optional XPro range extender. A claimed 17.4kg for the 7.8 keeps it firmly in the lightweight, pedal-friendly camp rather than the full-power trail bracket.

Two carbon builds are offered. The 7.8 is the headline spec with a FOX 34 FLOAT Factory SC fork, Shimano XT four-piston brakes, an XT shifter, a Bike Yoke Divine SL dropper and a faster-rolling Maxxis Rekon front tyre. The 7.7 saves money by stepping down to a FOX 34 Performance fork, SRAM DB8 brakes, a Deore shifter, Race Face Arc wheels and a Race Face dropper, while keeping the same Shimano XT 12-speed mech and FSA crank. Both share the 630Wh battery, BHZ motor and carbon frame, so the gap is in suspension damping, brakes and finishing kit rather than the core platform.

Geometry is XC-leaning rather than aggressive: a 68.5 degree head angle, 75.5 degree effective seat angle and consistent 453mm chainstays across all three sizes. Reach runs from 420mm on the S to 458mm on the L, with a low 342.5mm bottom bracket. It reads as a quick, efficient climber and an agile, lighter-weight trail companion rather than a slack descender.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Descending
41

Steeper 68.5° and shorter travel — happiest descending smooth, flowy trail rather than properly rough or steep terrain.

Playfulness
98

Short 453mm rear and a lighter build — easy to pop, manual and throw around.

Size balance
62

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.61) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
70

Climbs well — a 75.5° seat keeps the front planted. 500W of peak power and 65Nm of torque.

Best suited toPlayful trail riding — jumps, pumps and tight, techy singletrack.

Easy to throw around; happiest when you're active on the bike.

Watch out forNot built for serious descending — happier on flow than in the rough and steep.

Fine at trail pace; it'll feel out of its depth on properly rough, steep tracks.
