Overtime power only

Does the powerplay work with the main battery removed and only the overtime pack installed?

My rides use less than half the power of the main battery, so looking to save some weight and gain some agility.

I would say no. The overtime pack works like a mobile charger for the main battery. It can only output ~4A, or something like 200W. Not enough to power the motor.
