Having struggled to fit a water bottle I managed to find a mini water bottle 350ml and smaller cage. It’s advertised as youth. It clears the shock when pushed all the way up and it’s easy enough to get the bottle in and out.

I use this one Zefal WIIZ, lets you put the bottle in and out a bit more sideways. You can set it up for left or right hand. I ride an L-frame size and can fit an 590ml Bontrager water bottle without a problem with the piggybag of the shock and it sits snug against the toptube.
