I might be getting a Tesla Model 3 and I'm just wondering what tow bar bike rack anyone would recommend in the UK for a Trek Rail 5? Might need a 2 bike version in case I bring the veteran Spesh along for a trip as well

A bike on the back of my Audi A5 knocks 10mpg off my mpg figures. I can only imagine what it would do to a Tesla.
Can you even fit a tow bar to a Tesla? You might have to use a boot rack. But choose very carefully, and travel with the battery inside the car to reduce the load on the rack.

I have the Buzz Rack E scorpion on my Tesla model 3.
I only have the one bike version, but they make a two bike one.
I chose the one bike version as you are limited to the nose weight limit on your tow bar, which I think by memory is 58kg.
So two e bikes plus the weight of the carrier which is about 18kg would be pushing the limits.
It does effect the range of the car, but not by as much as I thought.
I think my average watt usage is about 240, and the bike fitted brings it up to about 290, that's traveling at about 60mph on the motorway.

Yes, you can get a tow bar for a Model 3 now (at first you couldn't). Would definitely take the battery out for travel.

Hi, I have a model 3 and just watch out as the weight for a bike carrier and bikes combined is only 54Kg. This meant selling my easy fold XT and getting an eurorider to drop the weight of the rack by 4kg. In order to get under the or just over the 54kg I have to remove the batteries from our bikes, seat post etc which gets us to around 55kg with both bikes on board. Yeti 160e and a Cube Sting BTW.
Thats based on the factory fit detachable tow bar.

Knocks about 20% off of the range if you stay below 70mph.

Worth a mention to the OP that Tesla do not wire in the reversing light on the electrics. I spent a while trying to get this working only to finally give up and RTFM to find that they don't wire it in to the electrics as 'You should not reverse while towing a trailer' :)

As most second hand M3s don’t come with a tow bar, I’d been looking at this one https://etowbars.com/uk/Towbars/Tesla-Towbars/Tesla-Model-3-Towbars/Tesla-Model-3-Invisible-Towbar. It’s a bike only tow bar, which is fine.
