So both of the motors on our original Rise's were eventually replaced. One due to a cracked axle (the issue with the e13 cranks fitted at factory), the other had the torque input sensor fail.
Ultimately the failure rate of all e bike motors is 100% - they're all going to have issues at some point. Shimano aren't repairable but seem to have a general policy of discounts on replacement motors up out of warranty (maybe up to 5 years age). At that rate it looks like the "annual cost" of a motor is about £180.
Given that a set of decent tyres at rrp is over £100 that doesn't seem unreasonable.
