It may be my imagination but my Rise seems at times a bit rattled/clattery over small bumps in trails etc.
Not all the time though but 30% maybe. Obviously if I hold the brake on it get a rattle moving the cranks, but that was the case on my older Rise too, so I think that's normal. But this seems more so on some trails?
Thoughts appreciated.

I don't know for certain, but the ep6 is probably the same basic design as the ep8. If that is the case, then the internals will have the same "problems". The ep8 was a lot lighter than its e8000 predecessor, had more torque and reduced internal friction. The consequence of the design to achieve these benefits was a slight rattle when not pedalling but traversing rough ground. When not pedalling there is a component inside the motor that is free to move and it might rattle. If the trail conditions are bumpy enough and quiet enough you can hear it. I had to listen really hard to hear mine, so I stopped bothering and now I never hear it. :)

However, this rattle is loud enough for those with good hearing and an accompanying sensitivity to bike generated noises to be totally thrown off their ride. It becomes an obsession and it ruins their enjoyment. :( Don't let that be you!

You should listen out for all unusual noises on your bike and get them diagnosed. If a fault, get them fixed before they become serious. If not a fault, ignore it. I believe that your occasional rattle is a feature and not a fault. Ignore it. :)

You're probably riding the bike harder than you used to - the harder you ride the noisier everything gets. Also, a lot of trails seem to have got bumpier where heavy rain has washed cover away leaving stones/flint increasingly revealed. Certainly the case in South Downs where we ride, some trails have become bone shakers. And Mrs and me are not getting younger. 😉

The rattle seemed to mostly go away, but BPW this week seems to have brought it back with a vengeance. Even on the road over the slightest bump i now get it.
I've lobbed the retailer an email to see what they say.

Pulled chain and chainring off, checked all the bolts. I can feel play in the spindle which i'm sure shouldn't be there on the spindle, you can obviously hear the noise too
The noise on the second video doesn't seem like it's any more excessive than I have seen in other videos with EP801 and EP6 motors - they are a little on the rattly side when being shaken - mine is pretty rattly on descents, but I have gotten used to it.

YEah i hear you, but i was getting the rattle even on the road, just the slightest bump. It's currently in the LBS and is with Shimano for a new motor. I'll be interested to see how it quietens down with a new one (or maybe doesn't lol).
However, if i can sell it in the next week, i may never even find out the answer.

That's shocking!
One can only assume their entire inventory is tied up with OEMs.
Yeah I get that, but doesn't make it any easier, apparently the first conversation stated "August" which my mechanic mate told the to bugger off with.

Its left me deep in limbo as to what to do now. I've been rushing the manual for 3 weeks now (I was using 50-50 manual and Eeb) and starting to get the fitness back, so I'm 99% to just sell it when it's fixed. It'll be a big loss, but so be it. Maybe then either revisit Ebikes in a year or two, or maybe get a Bosch based bike.

So Shimano have got the motor and analysed it

"motor is faulty, we'll send you a new one around June"

Errrrrrm WTF.
Around June, which could mean July (or even later)?

I'm hoping my mate at LBS can kick and scream and get it sooner, but either way I'm not seeing a world in which it stays.
Mrs Weeksy wants to keep it just in case she wants to come out, but she's not ridden in 3+ years so the odds aren't high

I just find it unbelievable how poorly the warranties are so often dealt with by these companies - I am thinking the likes of this and also the Canyon battery recall and pother warranty issues I have read about etc.
It sucks - the fact that we pay a large amount of money for these bikes and bike systems to be treated badly by the manufacturers is so wrong.

You could grab one of these Shimano steps DU-EP801 Electric Bike Motor
and have your bike shop program it for you, then you'll have a spare motor when the ep6 turns up. Just check that your shop is happy to program the new ep801.

I bought a bosch cx from that shop recently and it's happily running in my Cube now.
That's pretty decent value yeah. But in truth the last month has shown me i need less Ebike instead of more ebike.

Yesterday was 3000' of elevation and whilst it was bloody hard work, i didn't die and i'm starting to feel a bit better with the world.

The ebike has been great at times, but i just think the manual bike is more the answer and spending another £500 to get this running just isn't in my plans.

I'm rarely noticing it but what I do notice all the time is the crazy motor sound mine sounds like a radio controlled toy car I have two other emtbs and non of those have any noticeable motor sound's at all but seems to me that all motors have either a problem like snapping drive belts problems with temperature doesn't feel good not enough torque using too much battery etc anyways i think we're getting there it's becoming better I think but we should not have to buy new bikes it should be mounting standards on replacement motors that fits all bikes should be legislative work from authorities so emtb become easier to own and maintain
