Hey, battery not holding a charge for more than 6 miles. I've got a Santa Cruz 2022/23 Heckler cc 9 eBike.
Six miles out of a Heckler battery is genuinely alarming. That's not "range anxiety" territory, that's "something has gone wrong" territory.
The 2022/23 Heckler CC uses a Shimano EP8 motor paired with a 630Wh battery, so you should be getting somewhere in the 30-60 mile range depending on assist mode and terrain. Six miles suggests the battery itself has either failed, isn't charging properly, or there's a connection/BMS fault rather than simple degradation.
First things to check:
Is the battery actually charging fully? Plug it in and watch the charge indicator. Does it reach 100%? Some batteries show "full" on the LED indicators but the BMS (battery management system) knows the actual cell capacity is shot. If it was stored for a long period at low charge, deep discharge damage is possible and unfortunately often irreversible.
How old are the charge cycles? 2022/23 bikes are 3-4 years old now. If this is a second-hand bike or was used heavily, the battery may simply be at end of life, though 6 miles would represent catastrophic degradation even so.
Temperature? Lithium batteries lose 10-20% capacity in cold conditions, but that still wouldn't explain 6 miles from a 630Wh pack. Worth noting if you rode in sub-zero temperatures, but it's unlikely to be the whole story.
Honestly, at 6 miles, this needs a dealer diagnostic. A Shimano-authorised shop can plug into the system and read the actual battery health, cell voltages, and error codes. It may be a warranty situation depending on your purchase history. What country are you in and where did you buy it?
