Aye aye, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm an old git with 2 Knackered knees, so looking for an ebikes, as my manual (Scott) is just about impossible to ride these days due to knee pain.. I went into a depression thinking my biking days were over.....but......'ve tried out my brothers privateer e161 and all hope is not lost. I can ride again. Not the black routes but blues and oranges aren't out of the question. Hurrah.....so I'm looking for a new emtb.
I'll post on the forum about that tho, just thought I'd say hello.
Oh I'm in the Scottish Highlands, Glenlivet is my local track, and there's loads of other great venues within about an hour.

Cheers

My lbs is trying to hold me to ransom offering zero discount and saying he won't service or repair anything I buy elsewhere. So he can get stuffed. Another will repair but I'll have to pay labour. Which is better but neither can supply what I want in my size.

Hi Baldrick I'm in Buckie not much locally really and as you said you wouldn't get discount . I don't think the ebike market is big enough in our area . Bikes of Inverness did a wee job for me the other week no issues. Ride Scotland in Boat of Garten did a warranty job for me on a Cairn i bought elsewhere no issues. They sell Santacruz and Amflow. Cube dealer in Buckie he wouldn't repair anything not bought there. Ballater shop has been good with warranty on a couple of lads bikes I know Santa Cruz dealer there. I got from Berkshire cycles 2019 as nothing available up here then . Depends what you are after as well. I've had my share of woes with it but 10,000 miles on I still have it. Good luck

Nash at Ride Scotland is a good dude, I’ve spent a fair bit of money with him and he’s not even local to me.

Bikes of Inverness are decent though they seem to cater to road bikes. The last time I was in there they had 1 Spesh bike and all the rest were Trek. I was looking for an obscure part and the guy was kind of clueless even after I showed him the part and gave him the part number.

Monster bikes is probably my favourite shop in Inverness, they just seem more knowledgable and more down to earth than the others.

There’s also a newish shop that opened up, they only do services and don’t sell bikes but they’re legit. You can catch Joe Barnes and Danny Mac in there from time to time, they’re all mates. It’s called RaceCraft Bikes.

Yes Bikes are road orientated. Nash yes that's the lad I dealt with. I had a demo ride on a merida with monster bikes before I bought levo he seemed genuine. Merida had external battery that put me off. I have a mate who fixes anything I can't. He had Gravity Sports many years ago run from his house in Buckie so still has hope and other bike part accounts so tries to keep them going. Handy for brake pads tyres etc . Servicing hope hubs etc.

thanks. i visited a few shops at the weekend, went to alpine bikes inverness (the girl mechanic had more of a clue than the 2 blokes tbh)went to see the Buckie cube lad , who tried to hold me to ransom, offering zero discount and refusing to fix/warranty/touch anything bought elsewhere. i found his attitude a bit off putting, he came across as a bit obnoxious.
monsterbike lads in Inverness were really clued up and helpful, id sooner buy from them to be honest. went to highland bikes but they didnt have anything worth looking at tbh.
Are there any other dealers locally who are any good and worth a visit? im in elgin so aberdeen is also just doable?
cheers.

im still looking for a bike, narrowed down to a £4000 cube one 44, a £2600 giant trance e+2, and a £4500 whte e180 so far, willing to take advice on alternatives. mostly trail and bike park stuff but not black routes, i did oranges and blues and im too fat to jump.

Boat of Garton place does Whyte bikes. Buckie shop has basically been a sports shop for 30 years so he's not a bike mechanic , obnoxious your being polite. Monster bikes Inverness does Cube . I'm wondering myself if I get another bike summer time and question is where would I go. The warranty back up I've had from Berkshire cycles is unbelievable , take motor out post it get a new one back within a week would u get that up our way I doubt it.

it would take them longer than a week up here for them to post it. haha

ill give you an idea about buckie lad, i went into the shop , said im looking for a full sus mountain bike. right he says, in a pretty condescending tone "do you know anything about these bikes "? im like, well i did some research, so anyway off he goes " ill run through all the models and you can ask any questions when im done.."
yeah yeah" i reply, no problem.
so he starts on the hardtails . i said im not really looking for a hardtail (as ive already told the tit). he butts in abruptly saying "ill stop you there loon (im 57) , like i said ill go through them all and you can ask questions at the end" i was like FFS, a bit stunned tbh, i honestly felt like walking out the shop. it didnt get much better after that. im sure his opinion is the only one that matters and theres nothing he doesnt have an opinion on, but how hes kept a shop open with the way he speaks to people is beyond me..... but anyway....

bikes....
ill be honest the more im thinking about this the more im thinking maybe the giant will be fine for what i need it for.
its doing my head in trying to decide what to buy tbh.
ill have a trawl through the forums and see if there any issues with my short listed bikes and decide from there.

ill check out boat of garten place too, thanks for your help.

had a Giant Stance EMTB and loved it. Last year upgraded to a Trance EMTB and like it even more. Only upgrade I have done is put on SRAM AXS Transmission. I had AXS on my Stance and it works great. The transmission is even better. I am a heavier rider (225lbs) and want to upgrade the brakes but other than that the bike is great. Ride mostly flow type trails, fire roads, etc..
