Take this with a pinch of salt but I've just heard from a Merida rep that the new 160s will have will have an internal down tube battery. Very vague on other details but he seemed very sure of this
Am selling Merida ebike here in Norway, and have also heared the same about integrated battery, and that the 2020 mod will be out very earlie this year

Focus group syndrome strikes - the aesthetics may be better, but there seem to be way more reliability issues with integrated batteries. As a result I much prefer external.

The name will be Merida eOne-Sixty 5000 -8000 and 10-K
the 10-K will be expensive approx 10 000 Euros

there will also be a Eone forty

And I think this guy talks about the 2020 with integrated battery, but I cant understand the language

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4pdi6O5f0Y
He says that Jürgen Falke (Merida's head of design) showed him 2020 prototype, it will have an integrated battery, some sort of air intake in front to cool the battery and motor, and motor will be smaller and more covered

So that Means that eirher Merida will go for different Brand motor or Shimano is coming with somthing new!

I hope the rumours are true of them coming very soon.

I can see why a manufacturer would choose to go internal battery, but it will make the bike more expensive.

Ill be most interested in whether there is a new shimano motor, and what wheel size and width Merida have chosen for the update. I am not interested in a 27.5+ front tyre.

Agree with comments above , it’s a backward step for those that appreciate the ease of use over the aesthetics , however I think it’s how the market will evolve , so many cycle buyers seem more concerned about looks and colour , and think many current sales are to first time buyers who would choose integrated without realising the pitfalls

The "old" eOnesixty frame will still be available as 2020, highest spec here in Norway will be 800SE approx 5000 euros

having just sold my regular one forty i'd be very interested to see what they come back with.

Don't Merida own a large chunk of Specialized(49%?) so I wonder if the new bike will share tech from the Levo

I was told yesterday by rep for new Merida - Carbon frame, carbon wheels, 29 front, 27.5 rear, 500w internal battery with free second battery, Fox factory front and rear, Shimano XTR 1 x12 sp, 2 colours black or a nice green ( slightly different to current) Big money though 11k AU (Australian) embargo on photos etc till May, Hope that helps anyone waiting or considering.
Still love my current 900E with spare battery ( My former Giant battery lasted 40% longer) with no plans whatsoever to update for that sort of money.

I have also seen the spec for the new eOnesixty, like mentioned there will be full XTR 12 speed, XTR brakes, Dt swiss carbon wheelset, carbon frame and 2 batteries, there will also be 2 other models, a 5000 model with carbon frame and Shimano Steps 7000 and a 8000 model with steps 8000 and carbon frame top model is called 10-K

Price for the 8000 is similar to 900E here in Norway

Interesting - I wonder what size the internal battery will be, and hopefully that it is removable.

Thats quite a chunky battery its 1/2 a KG heavier than the external from memory - presume you mean the same one as used, for example in the Devinci and Scott bikes. Usually results in a heavier bike than the external due to frame reinforcement too, surprised they haven't gone with a more bespoke option.

The battery is called Shimano E8035 , so it seems like it's a new Shimano battery, can't find any information on it

I believe that is a new battery made by Darfon for Shimano, which a lot of the 2019 frames will be using - I keep an eye on the the Far East carbon frames, and it seems quite a lot of the new ones are being made to take this battery, e.g:

In fact I think its this battery, quite a bit lighter than the older integrated battery, but not as light as the external

If it’s around $11k in Aus lt will be around $16k here in NZ.
I think I’ll be keeping my 900e for a long time yet.
I hope we will still be able to get replacement batteries in a few years time.
Not sure if XTR 12 speed is the way to go.

This is not the correct colour for the 10-k, 10-K should be teal/black. 10-K will come with full shimano XTR 12 speed, and will have a mechanical shifter, XTR brakes. two 500 watts batteries (one spare battery) compared with the direct sell brands it will be an expensive bike

Are my eyes deceiving me or is it mullet wheeled? Initial impression is it looks a bit out of proportion, I think YT pulled off a great visual trick by beefing up the top tube on the Decoy to keep the frame proportions looking good.
