This looks interesting. A Pinion MGU with a big battery, decent spec & geo & you can buy it in the UK. 27KG beats the Nicolai Saturn, just. Couple of mixed reviews. Pinkbike felt the weight was front loaded excessively, STW didn't & ran it longer term. Both noted idiosyncracies with the gearbox but it's a full suss MGU for under £9k & it looks to me like the competition is on for these bikes. Shame about the name though.

Thanks for your post. Yes, I also find it a very interesting concept and actually the right solution for getting rid of vulnerable components such as the rear derailleur and cassette.
The clutch is imho a step in the right direction, but 25 kg is the upper pain threshold for me. So, it's a no-go.
I hope the manufacturers of the MGUs can improve the weight, then I'll definitely be a candidate.

Agree with that. 25+ is a lot. There is a risk of making the perfect the enemy of the good I.e. the benefits outweigh the cons & holding out for the unicorn spec can cost you a great experience. But I still think 27 kg is too heavy!
Heavy indeed. But if you yust ride and do not need to carry it, no sensible difference to my old (2019) RM Powerplay Altitude C50. If I add the range extender to the Rocky (all together marginally more, 830 Wh) it is roughly the same weight.
I tested the top variant 2 weeks ago and was very nicely surprised. Very smooth and nicely configurable power output, not quite so strong as the RM in "ludicrous" mode against peak setting (Pinion calls it "fly" mode) but more than plenty for the steepest climbs I could find.
What turned out to be the most the tempting feature (for me) with the Moustache: very short first gear. You can use the low gain mode most of the time.
All other competitors with MGU use smaller sprockets on the rear wheel. You can almost never use the logest 2 gears (except downhill without motor support) in 25 km/h legal areas, imho a bit of a waste of this great gerbox. It shifts absolutely perfect. Well, except the automatic mode, I yust cannot value this feature because it is not /cannot be/ as predictive as you would need in tehnical terrain. MGU says ist is no problem for the gearbox when shiftig under high pedal pressure but it feels odd when you pedal forcefully and, bang, gearbox shifts...
