As an original owner of a 2018 Levo, like many others, I've been through my fair share of motors under warranty and never worried too much about it as I know Spesh are good to their word and don't quibble over issues. My last warrantied replacement was just over a year ago. Since then, according to what I logged on Strava, I've done 1600miles, climbed 125,000ft and ridden for 160hours and as anyone that lives in the UK would know, a lot of that was wet and muddy riding.

However, recently, I started to notice some of the tell tale signs that everything was not as it should be... Motor getting noisier and crank wheel and chain turning on back peddle... As my bike is now well out of warranty (expired June '20) I thought I'd give @Bearing Man from Performance Line Bearings a go as I'd seen posts and comments from and about them on this forum.

Well, I couldn't be happier, and can't speak highly enough about the service I got. The team there are really nice people, who were 100% clear about the process and clearly communicated everything every step of the way. More importantly, they completely stripped down my motor, repaired the damage components and then, under my instruction, performed their upgrade service of stronger new sprag bearings, uprated thicker drive belt and additional inner/outer and ECU sealing. Finally, they turned it all around in super quick time. All of this for a lot less than it would have cost me to replace the motor for a new one (without any upgrades).

So, if anyone else find themselves in my shoes or simply wants peace of mind their motor has been upgraded to handle the UK weather and the general wear and tear we put our bikes through then I couldn't recommend them enough!

Here's some pic's of what they found inside my motor - noting although I do keep my bike 'showroom condition' at all times and wash it after every (muddy) ride without fail, I've ONLY ever used a garden hose on it and never sprayed directly into any seals or bearings but as I say, I do ride throughout winter, whatever the weather.

I am now well out of warranty on my Shimano e8000 motor., I have had zero problems with it but the thought that the manufacturers do not consider the motor as serviceable is a bit of a bummer. Not even Bearing Man is prepared to offer a service. This would make me think carefully before buying a bike with a Shimano motor in the future. The only chink of light I have seen is that @SmokeyBear has done a very effective DIY job. Not only that, he's detailed it on here for all to see.

Definitely a consideration if you are holding onto the bike after warranty. I look at it much like I would a car. I'm happy to do 99% myself (and quite enjoy it) but for those specialist jobs it's good to know a good 'garage' where you can trust them to do a good honest job for an honest cost.
