I'm coming with some updates, but first of all I want to thank everyone who replied and shared their thoughts. I have put things in balance and building an emtb from scratch at the moment is not worth it, I will definitely save that for the future, but for now I have decided to try a Merida

Took it today for a test outside in the snow, such a pleasant feeling, and after that bad luck with the Haibike, I thought bad luck is running on me again as after 10km when I took a break, the display won't turn on, but I think it was definitely from the cold temperature -9 degrees, cause when I brought it home it worked again when it warmed up.

So I've looked up a little, I've found these on eBay

The problem is, I'm having a hard time finding a frame compatible with Shimano E8000 motor and 8035 Battery, I've found one a little limited as it's on 27.5 and with 2.35" tire limit and some other frame supporting 8000 but with a Darfon battery also limited on tire size and brakes.

But I'm not totally stuck to Shimano, I may look for Bafang as well.

Can you share where did you find the “found one a little limited as it's on 27.5 and with 2.35" tire limit and some other frame supporting 8000”. If it is still available, I’d be interested in it.

This model i cannot find on eBay, while the darfon 504w variant I found on ebay, any idea of these batteries, how reliable are they?
Sorry we just find your post, we have two frames fit for shimano E8000 and EP8 motor for smallbike brand and personal buyer, LCES879 fit for battery E8035/36/EN805/6, LCES801 fit for Darfon E4C0G 720wh, 504wh is also acceptable, the same size of box but with different cell,
We have no sell it in ebay, we are factory, no have so many sellmen, vist our web to leave message directly, or send message to me.
DARFON battery is the special supplier for shimano motor, with good quality and lower price, shimano company also use Darfon battery sometime, but Darfon request MOQ is 99 sets, so you hardly get it in the market, normally some big bike brands use it with shimano motor,

Figured I'd share images here on this thread concerning the Dengfu E08 which uses the Shimano Steps EP801

Its early days as to whether I would reccomend building an ebike frame from scratch using the Shimano Steps system. Especially if you consider the ease in which full Bafang system kits can be sought more easily.

But water ingress isn't an issue for this frame 👍🏿
