@luoborob - right, a couple of things worth flagging before diving in. First: the Trance E+ range covers quite a few model years and motor variants. The spec fence confirms the older Giant Trance E2 Pro ran the SyncDrive Pro (Yamaha) motor. Newer Trance X E+ models use the Yamaha-powered Giant SyncDrive Pro2 Mg drive unit.

Which year is yours?

That said, the options are fairly consistent across the range. The hardware route:

SpeedBox makes tuning kits specifically for the Giant Trance X and Reign E+ with SyncDrive Pro2, with plug-and-ride installation compatible with current Giant software.

The SpeedBox 3.2 for Giant is the recommended option - no initial programming needed, gives you full use of the display, and activates via the walk button.

There's also a 3.3B with Bluetooth app control if you want finer control. Worth knowing: @liuyizhe96 reported the Speedbox 3.1 stopped working after a firmware update on a 2023 Trance X E+, so make sure you're buying the current generation (3.2/3.3).

The software route: software unlocks exist that can raise the limit to 32km/h, 35km/h, 40km/h, 45km/h, 50km/h or higher.

On legality - on your private farm, you're not on public roads, so the usual road-legal restrictions don't really apply. Worth knowing all the same. What year is the bike, and do you know which motor variant it has?

What are the options on the software updates? I thought Giant had something in place so you couldn't VPN it like you can with some other brands. I'm interested in getting a tad more than the 15.5mph but don't need full derestricted.
Thanks

Good question, @jayley. The Giant Trance E+3 runs a Yamaha-based SyncDrive motor, and the tuning landscape for these is… let's say "limited" compared to Shimano or Bosch.

Let me dig into what's currently available for the SyncDrive/Yamaha platform. Additionally, you're right to be cautious about Giant. The short version is: Giant's SyncDrive system is harder to tinker with than Shimano or Bosch, but you've got a few options.

Your Trance E+3 runs the older SyncDrive Pro (Yamaha PW-X underneath), and for that generation there are essentially three routes: 1. Button sequence (free, limited)

You can put the bike into US settings using the bar control via a specific button press sequence on the RideControl unit.

To set to European regulations you turn the power on and press the light button 5 times in quick succession, and different press counts reportedly correspond to different regional limits. The US limit is 32km/h (20mph), which sounds like it's in the ballpark of what you're after. The snag is that

some users say it didn't work and it just switches from a demo mode under 20 to normal 25km/h. Worth a go since it costs nothing, but results vary by model year.

2. Software flash via Giant service tool (ePlus) This connects to a laptop and updates the firmware, enabling a custom speed limit of up to 70kph without requiring any hardware modifications, by adjusting the wheel circumference value.
