Currently have a Gen 2 rail, it’s been out of action for what feels like ages waiting for a warranty wheel from trek, must be 8 weeks now..

Everytime I go to the bike shop I keep looking at the gen 5 rail 8, love the volt colour, looking at it, I gain connectivity to my phone, much bigger battery and mullet.

Has anyone gone gen2 to gen5 and how have you found it? Is it really that much of an improvement?

Having no rail I’ve been riding my procal and it’s made me think maybe a fuel ex-e but then I think I would miss the power when I needed it.

Tbf to them they are more roadie than mtb and had no stock of the wheel, I don’t have another trek dealer local unfortunately.

Lucky enough to have a procal for work duties and canal trails, wheel has arrived today so should grab it the weekend and back on the rail.

Although I’m seriously considering a fuel exe over a new rail.

I own (ed) both. Sold the Fuel EXe after 3 months since just too weak and poor range (range extender wasn’t available yet). I have Rail 2 as well and Levo3. Both my ebikes officially dead now. So analoging it until new bike arrives

I’m a fellow gen 2 owner in a similar choice as you. I’ve fully upgraded mine so it’s an amazing spec and rides like a dream but the newer tech of the gen 5 is really appealing and I could get a low spec gen 5 and swap over 80% of my bits so I’d end up with a really great bike. I just keep wondering if the newer tech is worth spending 5k for ??

Yep my gen 2 is totally stock, I don’t tend to upgrade till something breaks and have to give its due nothing has broke on it at all.

It’s a great bike, just loved being back on a lighter bike non emtb, conquered some pb which always feels good!

Me too... When I cam down a 4wd trail at 47km/h I managed to split the rear rim and break two spokes on my Rail 5. I replaced with Industry nine hydra wheelset. The stock Rail 5 stuff was crap anyway and now I have really reliable wheels.
