Ep8 motor with e5003 controller / display. Upgrade to e8000 / em800 possible?

I recently bought an NS E-Fine 1 with an ep8 but it came with the e5003 display / controller.
I appreciate its probably a bit of a cost cutting exercise from NS, but I'd really like the functionality and connectivity of the e8000 /em800 set up?
I'm assuming the chip set in the motor supports the upgrade?
If so, what wiring and adaptors would be required?

You do not need anything. E5003 display already is conected to motor via SD300 cable. Just buy display e800 display and e800 left switch. Just remember left switch can have long cable, so buy the one that will fit (30/40cm)

Please excuse my ignorance @lockin, but if I understand correctly, the em800 plugs straight into the existing cable for the e5003, I need to buy a cable to connect the em800 display to the em800 switch unit as from what I can see the switch unit doesn't come with a cable. Could you confirm which cable I need?

Yes, E800 display goes instead E5003, same cable, it will be little to long since E5003 is on the left and E800 will be on central side of the handlebar but you will have to live with it. As for switch it takes SD300 cable which you need to buy to 30 or 40cm long and connects to display.
