Rail (750Wh) Crank Arm Removal

Out riding tonight my chain ring came loose. I managed to limp home and now need to
Sort it out. I’m having trouble removing the crank arms. The cranks are ‘E*thirteen E*spec Plus’.

I’ve no idea what tools I need and the online search bring back so many varied options?

My bike is a Trek Rail 5 2023.

Any guidance would be appreciated posted.

8mm allum for the cranks, then a specific tool for the chain ring... Careful as reverse thread. Also apply blue loktite when you put it all back together... It's not hard but need some special tools.. Local bike shop may be a good option if you are not comfortable doing these sorts of jobs.. Look up BOSCH gen 4 lock ring tool... Very common. Good luck

Thank you, maybe I was just being weak as I could get the non drive side crank off but the drive side wouldn’t budge lol….. will try again tomorrow 🙂

Yes, they are super tight... 50nm sometimes... Good tools and long leverage needed, careful not to damage the hex head.. They also seem to loosen then get tight again, but keep going nothing to worry about. Use the arm to get good leverage, short gaps to start.. If you know what I mean, hard to explain..

The crank bolt does seem a little high (50nm) but it is what it is? Beware of the metal O ring behind the crank bolt.
