After yesterday's awesome day of tool destruction and converting a torque wrench into a much more useful torque hammer.
We headed off to find something new to destroy !
Today's bodge - removing the rear axle .. I actually used a torque wrench to tighten it last time, I think I even set the torque correctly ...... I'm starting to think crashing makes things tighter ! Actually, on inspection afterwards, I think the derailleur hanger being knocked was clamping the axle, so if your axle feels tight, also try loosening the hanger screw before you destroy it / SEND IT to axle heaven !
As you can see, with some sick spanner action I quickly rounded out the axle ! ?
Unfortunately, a T30 Torx bit wasn't going to bite enough so we thoroughly abused it with a T40 bit. In this case I used a security bit with the hole in the middle, the theory being that it might have a bit more flex in it if needed - though in reality a steel bit being pounded hard into some soft ally isn't going to flex ...
The correct bit .. and the Bodge it with Torx bit.
I put a bit adapter over the T40 so as not to damage the T40 whilst it was gently bashed into the too small round hole with a hammer....
Sorry it's out of focus, I was trying a suicide no hander at the time.
That got the Axle out. The bit can stay in it for now until I get a replacement axle. I'd probably chew the axle up even more trying to get it out.
And why this bodging ... as a crash test dummy .... suspected bent hanger ! I don't know about everyone else, but I normally try to crash to the right to avoid this But my last three crashes have all left the bike on the left ..
Visually, I was pretty convinced the hanger was straight .. It wasn't ..
It doesn't take much to make it impossible to index properly.
Until next time. Click to like and subscribe ... SEND IT !!!!!!
