Most of the time. But not with a speaker... Other trail users don't usually like that. I either use a product called Earshots, out of New Zealand, or Trex Titanium. I find the earshots sound better. The new Trex are better than my first gen, but since I picked up the Earshots last year, those are my go to.

The kind of riding I enjoy requires total concentration! It's like the old joke about turning the radio volume down in the car when you're trying to find a new destination. If I had music, I'd screw up.

I agree with the naysayer comments too. There is a time and a place when it is nice to have though. Even when parked after a days ride with friends.

In the summer, I often ride with airpods in but in transparency mode. I work weird hours so I usually take a morning call in the parking lot and go for a ride. If I've got the AirPods in, I'm just doing the easy stuff. I find it impossible to do harder trials with music going on, even worse on a conference call :)

AirPods Pro 2 with transparency mode switched on - at a low volume. It takes away from the noise of the Levo SL whiney motor, and my Magura MT7’s!
I can still hear other users and cars etc.

If I’m on a long fire track uphill, I sometimes turn the transparency off so that I get noise cancelling.

Since breaking my ribs in October, I’ve done a lot more road / cycle path riding over the winter. I bought a Garmin Varia light / radar - which is amazing for alerting you when a car is coming up behind you!

Yup, if I'm in roadie mode on the streets I'll use AfterShokz bone conduction headphones, they're light but no obstruction to my ears, the sound quality being ... eh passable but no fidelity. If I'm riding trails I'll not use anything that can shake off my head or ears or shift with vibration, I'll already be riding with a backpack so I drop in a Bluetooth speaker. As for annoying other people with my fine selection of techno, if 30 seconds of listing to some god awful noise as I pass by is going to ruin your day then seriously you need to get a life. Clearly, if I'm stopped say at the start of a section and there is other people about then I'll cut the music, be respectful and all that. Everyone has different ways of enjoying the trails, be it taking their dog, bombing super fast, just pottering along, socialising in large groups, or being out there on your own banging out System 7 and Eat Static just as long as your respectful of others.
However, what really does chafe my willy is the amount of litter at the trail heads, I mean seriously take your shit home with you!!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!! Usually spend about 10 mins at the end of my ride just picking old cans and sweet wrappers, get a grip people.

I have one earbud in in the volume at about 25%. I can easily hear everything going on around me, but have a little bit of background music going. I’m in the United States so I generally put a right earbud in so I can hear cars on my left.

AfterShokz bone conduction headphones all the time - music pushes me harder and the AfterShokz are so easy to adjust on the move. Plus it’s company as I haven’t got any friends .

Right up until while on the road and listening to some 90's techno(this was in the 90's) and i was going full tilt, so in tune with the music i drifted out to take a corner at speed. And the blast of the horn from the truck i'd just drifted in front of brought me to me senses
After that, i felt it was too dangerous.
But then I am a roadie user, but offorad, I could see you could really get into it ands it would likely do more for the riding,

I've tried a lot of things and now use Aeropex Aftershokz bone conducting headset. They don't muffle outside noise, wont fall out/off like Airpods, nd batery lasts forever. Also fit under fullface helmets. As mentioned, fidelity sucks. But they are good enough.

I often ride (when alone) with Bose soundwear device (neck speaker) playing all sorts of cool stuff… makes the long rides up even nicer

Galaxy buds 100% of the time, hate riding without music. No transparency, I don't want to hear the trail
