Cheers All,
New to emtb's and looking to get electrified and I'm smack dab between the MD and LG for the new Gen 4 Rail. I'm 5'9.5" w/ 32" inseam, looking to get the bike to explore rougher backcountry zones where it has been more moto/equestrian trails, ie bit steep, loose and technical. Solid expert level rider and coming off a '23 Santa Cruz Hightower V3 sz LG which has a 475mm Reach. It feels decent to me.... Looing at a few slightly used '23 Rails online both in a MD and a LG. For the riding conditions I mentioned above, would we want to go a tick shorter than what I'm used to or a bit longer??

Unfortunately the opportunity to throw a leg over both is not really an option with both being out of my area

TIA

For that height shorter. Get a medium and a longer stem.

I'm 5'10 and sized down to the medium, sitting at 460mm reach now and couldn't be happier. The large is nearly 490mm!

I currently ride a medium Gen 4 Rail. I'm 5'9.5" w/ 32" inseam also. The stem length was 60mm but I reduced that to 45mm along with a carbon bar cut to 760mm. The geometry seems right for my body size even though I have a long reach. I don’t think I would be comfortable with a large size Trek Rail.

I heard that when in doubt…size down.
