210*52.5 VS 210*50mm Rear Shock

Hi,

I am upgrading the forks on my Levo Expert to Fox 36 160mm. I have a DPX2 rear shock on my Yeti which is 210*50. Does anyone know if replacing the 210*52.5mm exist shock on the Levo with this would make much of a difference to it. I am thinking of swopping the the shock that came on the Levo to the Yeti and visa a versa and cant really think that 2.5mm travel would make much of a difference. But then again Spech bother to go with 52.5 as opposed to 50 or 55mm travel so there must be a reason. However potentially this saves me £609 on a new DPX2 so could well be worth a try.

Might be worth mentioning that the F36 will be a 44mm offset as opposed to the 51mm standard as well.

You'll lose approximately 7mm of rear travel from the Levo which will lower the BB a little and slacken the head angle a little. Whether it will make any noticeable difference is another matter.
Why are you using forks with a different offset?

I was going to wait for the 51mm to come back in stock but talking with Rob earlier about his Levo in the video he has done today he mentioned that he runs 44mm F36. He says this has slackened the head angle a little and he prefers this to the standard 51mm so I thought I would give it a try.

Using the 210x50 shock wouldn’t slacken the head angle or lower the bottom bracket, as the eye to eye is the same. You’d just lose out on that last bit of travel travel- also it would take slightly less force to bottom your bike out. Offset shock bushings are a good option for slackening head angles/ lowering bottom brackets. @Rich-Baillon what forks are you running?

Extremely pleased with how the bike improved over the original components.

Hi, I have decided to wait until the F36 Factory E-Bike fork in 51mm rake is available instead of going with the performance model. Will see how the 210*50mm goes and then switch it if not good.

The eye to eye is the same, so mulletting the bike won't help, in fact it may make it worse (see my second point). First, you'd need to make sure than none of the linkages came into contact with the frame on full compression. If there is plenty of clearance your next issue is how much lower the BB will be under full compression, a 27.5 wheel will make this worse.

People are saying the 210x55 is fine on other frame. Never seen anyone try a 210x60 tho. Maybe if you mullet the bike?
i tried today an rs 210x60 and it fits well, very impressed about how it absorbs bumps so well now,none of the linkages came into contact with the frame on full compression.
I run 27.5 , flip chip high, i don't do high jumps.
200psi, one token + one proimpact polimer, 35% sag.
I am 75kg.
I have to do some tests now.

keep in mind the 210 is the eye to eye, the 50 , 55 , or 60 is the stroke that the cyl can travel, the 50 will give you less travel, the 55 will give you like 7mm more travel than stock, and the 60 even more. I would think the 60mm would be too much for the frame as it was designed for the 52.5mm There was probably a reason Specialized had Fox and Rockshock set the travel to 52.5mm as both companies make 50mm and 55mm but not 52.5 (unless specific for Levo) That being said I run a 55mm shock on mine and it works fine. I am a big guy so it does help to not bottom out slightly

sworks has 55mm travel.
anyway the frame suports well 160mm too. if it can reach the travel without crashing frame to frame i think it is good
