Just picked up my first e-mtb, which is the 2024 Orbea Rise SL with the 360wh. Looking to upgrade and hoping to get some insight. First question - Can the new 630wh be installed vs the 540wh?
Welcome to the forum,
@Nerve. Cracking first eMTB choice. Right, the short answer to your question is almost certainly
no, and here's why.
Your 2024 Rise SL M20 is the previous generation frame. Previously, the Rise came with a 360Wh battery standard, with an option for a 540Wh battery. The new Rise comes with a 420Wh battery, with an option for a 630Wh battery.
That's not just a cell upgrade, it's an entirely new battery platform with different physical dimensions and connectors.
The 630Wh Gen2 battery is listed as compatible with Orbea eBikes from model year 2025 that have the Shimano Steps EP6 or EP8 motor installed, which strongly suggests it won't fit the older downtube cavity.
Your realistic upgrade path on the 2024 frame is the
540Wh battery, which was the larger option for your generation. Good news is it's a known swap. An Orbea dealer on our forum confirmed they
ordered a 540Wh battery for a customer who had the 360Wh, done through Orbea's spare parts system (no warranty claim needed, just a straightforward order). Stock can be patchy so expect a few weeks' wait.
