Looking at a used 1, anything to look out for? Apart from the usual wear. Can you get parts readily for the electric bits, if it only has the 500wh battery can I fit a bigger 1?

If you’re unfamiliar with eMTB’s (Bosch motor) , a Trek dealer can give you some history by gathering data during an update. Mileage, errors, service intervals etc could be useful information. Motor, battery and frame condition would be my concern. The rest of the stuff easily replaceable if necessary.

Welcome to the forums.
Cheers

Battery is easily replaceable. Our 2022 Trek Rail 5's came with 500Wh batteries but 625Wh batteries fit no problem. Might be wrong but I think the 2021 is the same. If you take the 500Wh battery out there's a spacer at the top which is not required for 625Wh batteries. We have a couple of spare 625Wh batteries which we use from time to time.

Thanks for that, do they cost much? Are they labelled so when I'm looking at a bike I can check what watt they are?

Batteries are removable so open the battery lock on the top left of the down tube, remove the battery and have a look. Bought our spare new 625Wh batteries for about £425 each.
