Mate get onto Orbea. Marin replaced my E13 cranks for XT cranks for free as soon as I told them I was worried about this issue. Hope your motor is in warranty!
I contacted Marin direct (I have the Alpine Trail E2) and they sent me out free XT cranks, which Shimano recommend for the EP8. Maybe Orbea will do the same?
Well got to say 5 rides in on the DT Swiss and Pro 5 combo - now with Assegai/Minion DHRII and Rimpact inserts front and rear...the bike flies, just seems to roll for ever and very strong wheels, fully recommended.
Recently upgraded my stock Marin wheelset on the E2 with DT Swiss HX531 fr HX581 rr hybrid hoops (designed for e-bikes) on Hope pro 5 hubs, rear hub e- bike specific also. Really chuffed, just roll so well. Hand built for 600 quid. Superb.

Also my wheel builder...
Yeah - lovely bike, but it's ridiculous that on a 7k bike you'd basically have to bin the forks and upgrade as soon as you got it home. I'm also not convinced still on these integrated headsets. Be a deal breaker for me, especially as there are so many other great bikes out there.
Thanks for putting my mind at rest - it does look odd, like something is missing which messes with my OCD a bit but as long as others have done the same with no issues.
I'm used to working on 'normal' drivetrains and BB's etc but am totally new to ebike maintenance.
At least now I have peace...
Hello all - in need of advice. So I swapped my cranks yesterday (no issues with the spindles thankfully - but I'm a little confused - there was a sort of rubber washer behind the drive side e13 crank, do I just discard that? I know the XT cranks wouldn't go fully on with it in place - and if so...
My Marin Alpine Trail E2 came with the slx 4 pots and 205 rotors and tbh they are great brakes, stop a 95kg me and the 25kg bike with one finger braking, they are excellent.
Yes, it does. Certainly the best looking e-bike out there. I'm coming from 20 years of riding normal mtb so the halfway house of the Rise really appealed. The deciding factor to go full fat in the end is age. I could manage now and maybe for a couple more years, but eventually I'd probably need...
Must admit I was very close to getting a hydro Rise, went with a Marin in the end. Not sure I'd enjoy a 'floppy' bike? I know it doesn't do any harm (we hope) but all the same.
I have Hope Tech3/e4 brakes on both current un assisted bikes, which have to be the easiest bleed out there, so I'm going to not enjoy the experience no matter what brake I get unless it's Hope.
Hello there, be really interested in your thoughts when you have had a few rides if you don't mind. I'm in a similar situation to yourself - don't fancy full fat but like the concept of the Rise - was going with the H15 but still not decided.
