I think it was the embn guy commented that the majority of the wins taken on the climbing events were bikes with bosch motors . mosely will indorse trek as a brand more than just the motor
You can change gear in walk mode to get it to run at the right speed , just shift as you normally would ,I think all ebikes are the same . I know what you mean when you need walk mode it’s because you’ve come to a halt in the lowest gears
It could depend on what your lowest gear is on the rear , the sensors in the shimano motor don’t seem to cope with lower gearing . I can’t remember the numbers now as I don’t have that bike but when I tried a smaller front ring the motor would switch in and out When using the lowest gear ...
Been deciding which motor to buy next recently , it seems as big a choice as the bike ,
Robs hill climb test was a very good indeed I thought thanks Rob
then I watched this And saw that most of the best hill climb results in competitions went to bosch as well
Fair enough , I’ve used my garmin gps on the bars and I hate that there too unless I really need it to navigate , as for I phone on the bars even the roadie is horrible
Have ridden Merida with di2 back to back with my commencal , I didn’t notice any power difference in the motors , di2 is nice to use . In our regular group there are now 3 di2 bikes and 3 normal all shimano and no one has picked up on any power differences so far
Interested as to why you wanna get rid , it’s not as if it’s big or heavy like some of the small laptops some bikes have ? have to say I don’t use mine a lot but it’s useful sometimes , also how would you select the set up and Bluetooth function without ?
Interesting thread because if the...
I’ve not tried the Bosch , I guess you are saying the Bosch walk mode has variable speed , so gear selection isn’t so important .
The shimano feels weak when you use it on the flat or places you could easily ride , but when you’ve given up being able to pedal ist generally so steep or technical...
It took me a while when I first had my bike to realise I needed to use the gears in walkmode to get the speed right , if your using low gears , which us usually the gears your in when you start walking the assistance is so slow it does feel useless , use a faster gear and it’s actually quite...
I have normal gears and walk mode is very slow unless your down near the end of the block , but if your pushing up almost impossible stuff it’s good to have and use in the slower gears .
Sounds like dirty connections unless you moved it or touched the pedals as you switched on , but that usually gives an error code .
It’s worth pulling out the 3 small conectors on top of the motor and cleaning them then sealing over with grease , also clean the connections into the display ...
Same problem I had and others , hoping as said here it’s a quality control issue with a certain batch of motors .
Good to see there’s not tons of replies to this post really and shimano are getting new motors out if a bit slow at times ?
As you said Gary I think your bearing failure must be because you are into jumping it doesnt seem to be a common problem . Most of what I’ve read on here seems to be electronic ie fault codes rather than mechanical failure or wear .
Just hoping ours were a faulty batch of early motors , time...
Ok Iam wondering how reliable the shimano is .my mate and I recently both had new motors under warranty , both with same problem , sensor errors , error codes and cutting out .
Perhaps our motors were a faulty batch We bought the bikes together .
Both motors had done approx 1500 miles ...
I like that too , have you got one ? Wondering how well it would fit a normal surface mount battery .
I also been thinking about popping a little hand warmer heat pack inside the battery cover on cold days Wether it would help battery life
