We have a huge problem with ebikes

Protagoras of Abdera (l.c. 485-415 BCE) is most famous for his claim that "Of all things the measure is Man, of the things that are, that they are, and of the things that are not, that they are not" Truth is relative

We have a huge problem with ebikes

The real problem is that ebike tech is in it's infancy. Change is almost constant. Until the industry reaches a plateau we will see bikes falling off the back and being obsolete. Manufacturers with supply chain problems are not going to stock a bunch of parts for a bike they know will be gone in...

We have a huge problem with ebikes

Sometimes a standard is established only when a dominate player bullies the industry. Most of the time, IMHO, a imperfect standard is better than a free-for-all. Tesla is an example. Other vendors jumped on compatibility because they did not want to have to build charging stations all over the...

We have a huge problem with ebikes

You know Rob your example of the Lightcarbon brings up the point that given the problems in the industry there is a significant advantage to being a DIY builder. The DIY builders that took a chance to build a Lightcarbon or CEF50 have been building/using a variety of batteries by necessity since...

We have a huge problem with ebikes

The industry has chosen to make everything proprietary. Once you buy into a system they own you. It eliminates competition. Once you have become a slave they can sell you parts at whatever price they want. It is our fault for not being more critical of stupid proprietary parts that have no real...

Rémy Métailler rides the new Propane Ekano 2CF with the SRAM Eagle Powertrain (motor).

I always thought the company name sounded french but it appears to be founded by two Germans. "This explains Propain´s popularity and growth. Initially, Markus Zander´s basement formed the headquarters, which was soon moved from Frankfurt via Ginsheim to Gustavsburg. 2012 marked an important...

    Bikepacking on an emtb?!

This is the way I will do it. But you need a bike that can use the Burley Coho replacement thru axle. That is why I sold my Rise and bought a CEF50 because it can tow a trailer and the Orbea can not. The designer provides files for his 3D printed connectors.

    Electric Gloves?

I could never keep my hands warm, although for me is when it is lower than 20f. So I went to cheap electric gloves. A ton of offerings at Amazon. Different price ranges. I like having the on-off power levels switch rather than just having plug the battery in and have gloves on all the time.

    Understanding motor power ?

The 85nm is a measure of torque. How much can the motor do going uphill at heavy work load maximum. The 250w is the average power of the motor. You could have a motor that is 250w but geared for speed. So it can't climb a hill for Sh&t but can go really fast. You could also have a motor with...

    First ebike conundrum

Just watch the weight. A really heavy emtb is a royal pain. Hard to get on the back of the car, impossible to get up stairs into the apartment etc.

    Fireproof Battery Bags

Lipos don't lik to be treated badly and they rebel. I think a lot of these sensational fires come from people using the wrong chargers. If you over charge a lipo you damage the vacuum they live in and lithium burns on contact with oxygen.

First ebike for a 69 year old. help

    1. In the Dolomites riding up hill will require more power. But "full"power bikes are also heavier. 2. The lightweight bikes are easier to carry and store and push if needed. They feel more like a normal peddle bike rather than an electric moped. 3. Bigger batteries let you ride farther but the...
